Guan Shanying

Guan Shanying was a handsome Hidden Dragon Institute student whose bloodline, speed, and metal-clad talons made him one of Team Soaring's most dangerous close-range fighters. His repeated attacks on Team Bright during the Clay Giant crisis ended when Zheng Xia sacrificed himself to carry Guan into the giant's grasp. (Chapters 119 and 204–227)

Biography

Team Soaring and the Clay Giant

Guan enters the Institute with enough speed and bloodline reputation to be discussed among the strongest examination prospects, although observers also mock his reliance on romantic connections. Within Team Soaring, he shares the belief that bloodline students should not associate too closely with commoners and warns Wang Doushan away from Team Bright. When the teams clash near the Clay Giant, Guan joins the attempt to drag the bloodline-less students down and assumes their defeat will be easy. (Chapters 119 and 204–215)

Guan could have escaped the Clay Giant through superior speed, but loyalty to his team and eagerness to attack keep him nearby. He severely wounds Zheng Xia, takes an eye, and nearly kills him while also fighting Du Qing. Zheng and Du retaliate, damaging Guan's face and impaling him, but his endurance remains sufficient to continue. Zheng then holds him fast and carries both of them directly into the Clay Giant's hand. Later accounts confirm Guan's death and connect his earlier abuse of Qiu Tang to the thrill-seeking cruelty shared by his faction. (Chapters 216–239 and 373)

Appearance and personality

Guan Shanying is a notably beautiful young man with snow-white skin, rosy lips, and long hair swept behind his back and tucked behind the left ear. He wears a grass-green robe and brocade decorated with eagle motifs, together with white Peak Soaring Boots. Damage from Zheng Xia breaks his nose and ruins the beauty of which he is proud. He is vain, contemptuous, aggressive, and eager to dominate weaker students. He is not wholly disloyal: remaining close enough to help Team Soaring places him at risk from the Clay Giant. Yet he treats his own attacks as justified and becomes enraged when wounded opponents continue resisting, showing little capacity to recognize the consequences of the violence he initiates. Abilities and cultivation

Guan is an Origin Qi Scholar whose formal realm and bloodline name are not supplied. His bloodline gives exceptional speed, including aerial movement and enough straight-line or evasive mobility to leave the Clay Giant behind. His claw style combines natural or trained speed with razor-sharp metal talons fitted around his fingers, letting him cut through defensive palms, pierce an abdomen, remove an eye, and contest a sword directly. (Chapters 204–216)

His named finishing art, Thousand Cuts Talons, produces a rapid barrage that strips flesh and exposes bone. His speed can be constrained by protecting companions or repeatedly turning back to fight. Jiang Yang's Stoneheart Palms resist his claws, and combined injury, grappling, and environmental force defeat him even when an ordinary sword wound is not immediately fatal. No healing art, ranged attack, cultivation progression, or consciousness technique is demonstrated. (Chapters 216–219)

Relationships

• Zheng Xia: Guan maims him and tries to finish him during the pursuit. Zheng accepts death to restrain Guan and deliver both of them to the Clay Giant. (Chapter 216)
• Du Qing: Du fights to save Zheng, helps impale Guan, and is scarred by his retaliation before Zheng completes his sacrifice. (Chapter 216)
• Wang Doushan: Guan warns him that remaining with bloodline-less companions will bring no benefit, expressing Team Soaring's social hierarchy. (Chapter 210)
• Zheng Kuang: They are Team Soaring bloodline fighters who jointly attack Team Bright and suffer from the group's prepared Thunderfire response. (Chapters 204–218)
