Du Qing

Du Qing is a lively, kind-hearted Hidden Dragon Institute student and bloodline-less swordswoman who recruits Su Chen's party into Team Bright. Her agile sword style develops through Su Chen's Soaring Eagle Weightlessness technique, while a deadly mountain expedition costs her captain Zheng Xia and leaves lasting emotional consequences. After graduation she deliberately enters civil service as a secretary in Drum City.

Biography

Forming Team Bright's expedition

Du Qing meets Su Chen, Wang Doushan, and Cloud Leopard while Team Bright is short of members for a trip to Thousand Ashes Gorge. She invites them largely because she feels sorry for the supposedly fallen Su Chen and cannot bear to leave classmates without a group. Her captain Zheng Xia doubts the choice, but Du Qing persuades him by pointing to Wang Doushan's noble bloodline and treating the newcomers' average strength as acceptable for a sightseeing-oriented expedition. (Chapters 196–198)

Her relaxed approach shapes the journey. She stops for scenery and flowers, reads romance stories, tries unfamiliar wild food, and initially resents Cloud Leopard's blunt warnings. Actual danger gradually corrects that inexperience. Team Bright fights Vicious Beasts, cooperates to separate a pair of Giant Adamantine Apes, and grows warmer toward Su Chen after his preparations and strength become clear. Du Qing's concern for him leads her to urge an all-out attack when she mistakenly believes he cannot delay the second ape for long. (Chapters 198–205 and 209–213)

The Clay Giant battle and Zheng Xia's death

Hostilities with Team Soaring culminate around a Clay Giant. Blood Demon Zhong Ding grabs Du Qing and throws her toward the elemental creature, but Cloud Leopard redirects her in midair and takes a severe wound across his back. When Guan Shanying attacks, Zheng Xia shields her and suffers grievous claw wounds. Du Qing responds with the Limpid Autumn Sword, using surging sword wind to pursue their faster, bloodline-empowered opponent even though the pair together are normally weaker than him. (Chapters 215–217)

Zheng Xia finally holds Guan Shanying in place and commands Du Qing to stab through both of them. She hesitates, then obeys, but the attack does not kill Guan. Zheng Xia therefore carries him into the Clay Giant's grasp and dies with him after telling Du Qing to take care of herself. The survivors conceal the circumstances of the noble students' deaths, and Du Qing later endures questioning without betraying the account. The expedition turns her early kindness into a durable bond with Su Chen, Cloud Leopard, Wang Doushan, and Sun Jizu. (Chapters 217–240)

Training and choosing a civil career

Su Chen later brings the surviving Team Bright members together and gives Du Qing Soaring Eagle Weightlessness, a body technique designed to support her fluid Separation Sword Technique. Her tournament record improves over successive years: she advances from early elimination to later rounds and eventually enters the Dragon Transformation List alongside Sun Jizu, becoming one of the Institute's notable students without a bloodline. After graduation, Du Qing chooses to serve in Drum City as a civil secretary responsible for drafting official missives and curating literature from across the continent. The narration emphasizes that this is an uncommon but legitimate choice for an Origin Qi Scholar, not a loss of cultivation. Years later she joins Su Chen's reunion with former classmates and immediately resumes the group's familiar dynamic by grabbing the habitually late Wang Doushan by the ear. (Chapters 341 and 630)

Appearance and personality

Du Qing is introduced only as a young maiden; the corpus does not specify her height, build, facial features, hair color, clothing, or age. She sometimes wears wildflowers in her hair during the expedition. Guan Shanying later claws five bloody marks across her face, but the text does not say whether they become permanent scars or describe her later appearance. (Chapters 196–198 and 217)

She is kind-hearted, lively, curious, romantic, and emotionally expressive. She recruits classmates out of pity, delights in scenery, reads romance novels until she cries, and worries openly when companions are endangered. She can also be impractical: she underestimates mountain hazards, takes Cloud Leopard's warnings personally, and freezes when Zheng Xia first asks her to strike through him. Experience does not erase her warmth. Instead, it adds resolve and discretion. Abilities and cultivation

Du Qing is an Origin Qi Scholar without a bloodline. The corpus does not state her exact realm at any appearance, but it identifies her sword style, later movement art, combat progression, and comparative limits.

Separation Sword Technique and Limpid Autumn Sword

Du Qing fights in the widely practiced Limpid Autumn Sword style while cultivating the Separation Sword Technique and Cloud Swallowing Absorption. Their interaction gives her version a distinctive, graceful quality: the strokes flow like water, yet their separating force cuts flesh from a Mountain Demon wherever the blade lands. Du Qing enjoys reading and later turns that interest into professional work. In Drum City she drafts official communications and curates literature collected from across the continent. This is an administrative expertise rather than an Origin Skill, and the corpus supplies no details about her office rank, specific documents, later promotion, or interaction between cultivation and clerical duties. Relationships

• Zheng Xia: Du Qing's captain and protector in Team Bright. She persuades him to accept new members, fights beside him against Guan Shanying, and obeys his devastating final order to stab through him. His death is the defining loss of her mountain expedition. (Chapters 196–198 and 215–218)
