Chief Steward Lao
Chief Steward Lao is the Lian Clan's senior household official and principal negotiator during its early conflict with Su Chen. His caution helps the clan withdraw from a dangerous confrontation, and his later dealings make him the wider nobility alliance's preferred intermediary with Su Chen.

Negotiating with Su Chen
Chief Steward Lao first sought an audience after Su Chen captured Lian Jiao. Initially turned away, he returned with the Long Clan's steward to demand the captives' release. Su Chen secretly negotiated with each representative separately, and Lao accepted a contingency agreement in which the Lian Clan could abandon its gains and make peace rather than support the Long Clan's retaliation. After Su Chen survived the Long Clan's trap, Chief Steward Lao confirmed that the Lian Clan would choose peace. He retrieved Lian Jiao, restrained her renewed anger, and promised that the clan would honor its agreement. His judgment preserved a workable relationship with Su Chen, and the ten Bloodline Nobility Clans later selected him to negotiate their collective response to the Lingyuan pirate attacks. Appearance and personality
