Biography

Eroded authority and the Lin Clan trap

Chen Wenhui enters the hunt for Silence because the Investigations Bureau is formally obliged to assist, despite his open hostility toward An Siyuan. He holds his patrolmen back to preserve them, but An forces them forward as expendable troops. Silence then manipulates Chen's emotions and turns him against the other attackers, deepening the institutional conflict. Although the group survives and defeats the immediate threat, Chen's losses give An and Su Chen an opening to install loyalists and divide an office that had previously answered primarily to Chen and the nobility. When Su moves against the remaining noble alliance, Chen arrives to defend the Lin Clan and the political order behind it. He initially holds an advantage over multiple opponents, but Su demands that Lin Fengtang prove his surrender by attacking Chen. Lin forces, embedded constables, and former enemies all turn at once. Poisoned by a trusted subordinate and unable to escape, Chen releases his full bloodline strength and kills nearby attackers before a final silvery strike ends his resistance. At full power, the vines become bloody extensions resembling exposed muscle and vessels, tearing apart nearby fighters and holding off a large force. This peak output does not make him invulnerable: concentrated fireballs batter the Young Tree Nymph, poison from a trusted ambusher attacks his heart, and attacks from multiple directions exhaust his defenses.
