Astin

Astin is an Arcana Race survivor and Resurrection Door official who sells information and allies to preserve his position under Ravager rule. He helps Danba bait the Immortal Temple into an ambush, but Su Chen recognizes the trap and kills him in the resulting duel.

Biography

Bargain with Danba

Astin operates in the southern region only because the Ravagers tolerate the scattered remnants of his race. Although he claims that his physical strength would let him topple Danba with one hand, that dependence leaves him no political leverage when Danba demands the source of the Heavenly Might Army's food. Astin identifies Su Chen and the Immortal Temple, then accepts control of the southern region as payment for betraying his contacts. He treats betrayal as a practical condition of underground survival and even offers the head of his rival Ryan as an additional pledge. (Chapters 649–650)

Astin fabricates a trade to draw Shi Mingfeng, Night Demon, and Su Chen into Ravager territory. A transmission disk lets him report their route while an ambush force shadows them, but the haste with which he offers credit exposes the arrangement. Su Chen chooses the swamp as the meeting ground and reveals the hidden Ravagers, while Shi Mingfeng independently concludes that Astin has sold them out. (Chapters 651 and 656–667)

Formula against improvisation

Forced into the open, Astin accepts Su Chen's offer of a one-on-one fight. His reputation as the “Ruler” comes from using precisely calculated amounts of power, yet this conservative method makes him slow to understand Su Chen's illusions and unconventional defenses. Astin escalates through layered attacks, protection, and finally Sixth-Ring techniques, but becomes tangible to launch a real warning flare and is bisected before he can escape. Su Chen then confirms his death; a later recollection of Astin's Fire Halo describes an old battle rather than survival. (Chapters 668–670 and 822)

Appearance and personality

Astin is a black-robed member of the Arcana Race. The corpus gives no reliable facial features, age, height, or other ordinary physical description. His battle form can become temporarily insubstantial through an Arcana Technique, but that is a magical state rather than his normal appearance. (Chapters 649 and 668–670)

He is calculating, opportunistic, and candidly cynical about loyalty. Dependence on the Ravagers has taught him to preserve several escape routes and sacrifice partners before they can sacrifice him. In combat, the same desire for control appears as rigor: he applies exact, conservative formulas and initially dismisses irregular results instead of adapting quickly enough. Abilities and cultivation

Astin is a Fifth-Ring Arcana Master, broadly comparable to a human Light Shaking Realm cultivator. He can force some Sixth-Ring techniques, but doing so exceeds his normal ring and does not make him a general Sixth-Ring master. His strength lies in measured spell sequences, perception, and layered defenses rather than close combat. (Chapters 668–670)

Elemental offense and control

Astin builds attacks through an Elemental Vortex and demonstrates a concentrated lightning sphere, Third-Ring Flame Strike, Fifth-Ring Wave of Darkness, and a Sixth-Ring Fire Halo. The halo encloses a wide area in flame and is better suited to trapping or pressuring groups than striking one evasive opponent. His later poison-and-fire combination increases the threat, but Su Chen's defenses and recovery prevent it from deciding the duel. The corpus does not explain how Astin learned these techniques or how often he can exceed his ring. (Chapters 668–670)

Demonic Dirge interferes with consciousness and should slow an opponent, yet Su Chen's unusually strong consciousness resists it. Astin can also emit a real signal flare, but illusions make him uncertain whether earlier signals were genuine. His final attempt requires him to leave an intangible state, creating the opening Su Chen uses to kill him. (Chapters 669–670)

Layered defense, perception, and escape

Astin combines a crystal mirror, Order Shield, and Inferno Armor to place multiple barriers between himself and an attack. His innate Pupil's Gaze can inspect defenses and helps him judge how much force to use, while a green healing technique closes damage. Su Chen defeats the system by presenting misleading sensory information and striking faster than Astin's calculations can be revised. (Chapters 668–670)

Void Transformation makes Astin temporarily insubstantial, allowing attacks to pass through him. Its decisive limitation is that he also cannot attack while transformed. He therefore survives only by remaining intangible; the moment he restores a physical body to send a genuine flare, Su Chen cuts him apart. Astin dies with no later recovery or continued access to his Arcana Techniques. (Chapter 670)

Relationships

• Danba: Danba coerces Astin into identifying the Heavenly Might Army's supplier, then rewards him with promised regional authority. Astin becomes his informant and arranges the Immortal Temple ambush. (Chapters 649–667)
• Su Chen: Astin sells Su Chen's route to Danba and tries to contain him with increasingly powerful Arcana Techniques. Su Chen anticipates the betrayal, exploits Astin's reliance on formulas, and kills him. (Chapters 651–670)
• Shi Mingfeng: Astin uses his trading relationship with Shi Mingfeng to stage the trap. Shi Mingfeng notices the suspicious terms and realizes that Astin has betrayed the Immortal Temple. (Chapters 651 and 666–667)
• Night Demon: Night Demon accompanies the Immortal Temple party Astin lures into Ravager territory and is one of the people endangered by his betrayal. (Chapters 651 and 656–667)
