Biography

Friendship, possession, and death

Rocky begins as Doze's timid companion among the new tower apprentices and becomes attached to Jenna. After Jenna dies in a parasite plot, manipulators exploit his grief: an unknown consciousness possesses him, shows him accusations from Jenna, and sends him to attack Saul with a cursed poisoned dagger. Rocky's familiar appearance conceals the wraith control until the Diary warns Saul. Saul uses anti-undead magic and an Ice Dagger to survive, ending Rocky's life as another expendable piece in the tower's internal schemes. (Chapters 11, 35, 61–62)

Appearance and personality

Rocky is initially a timid young apprentice. Possession leaves him haggard, sleepless, bloodshot, and violently fixated on avenging Jenna.

Abilities

His possessed body moves with unnatural speed and precision and wields a dagger coated in a curse that melts a victim's organs.

Relationships

• Doze: Doze is Rocky's early companion and social protector.
• Jenna: Rocky's affection and guilt over Jenna provide the emotional opening used to control him.
• Saul: Saul recognizes that Rocky is being used but must kill him to survive the assassination attempt.
