Biography

Final transformation into the wall

Murphy is the oldest and most respected Fourth Rank Wizard at the Sighing Wall, having condensed much of his knowledge and power into the defense that keeps Stat from the Abyssal Eye. Near the exhausted end of that path, he rejects mere survival and designs a useful conclusion. Murphy petrifies into a new First Wizard Tower and activates a life-communion: every willing signer leaves a soul portion in permanent service to the wall. He deliberately excludes Saul because the Borderland is Saul's responsibility. The transformed Murphy remains a structure and inheritance rather than an independently traveling wizard. Appearance and personality

Murphy looks roughly fifty despite being the oldest wizard present, with ruddy skin and few wrinkles. Norton and Frim treat him with unusual respect. He is patient, unsentimental about his end, and focused on making death continue to serve the defense he built. (Chapters 658 and 939–941)

His Fourth Rank knowledge supports the Sighing Wall, deep-sea anchor suppression, petrification into a wizard tower, and the life-communion that binds many soul fragments into one defensive system. (Chapters 658, 807–808, 939–941, and 1021)

Relationships

• Maria: Maria and the later wall leadership inherit Murphy's permanent defensive structure and responsibility. (Chapters 939–941 and 1037)
