Biography

Investigation and fatal mental intrusion

Kent joins Julie, Shaya, and Saul during Bayton Academy's investigation of wraith-related pollution. A capable fire wizard, he initially presents himself as a reassuring senior partner. The investigation later turns adversarial inside Saul's consciousness space; Kent jumps from the circular platform in an attempt to reach what lies beyond it and is immediately polluted by the star-filled depths. His body mutates after the group exits, and Saul later uses the death to infer how proximity to the stars changes intruders. (Chapters 471–473, 639, 660)

Appearance and personality

Kent is a male wizard whose fire affinity shows as small flames between his teeth. He is confident and outwardly collegial, but curiosity and aggression overcome caution in Saul's mental realm.

Abilities

He is a powerful First Rank wizard specializing in fire-element magic and experienced in joint field investigations.

Relationships

• Julie: Julie briefs Kent and works beside him in the academy investigation.
• Saul: Kent shifts from senior teammate to mental-space intruder, and his death becomes evidence for Saul's later study of the Prismatic stars.
