Hospitality, sacrifice, and arson
Jenny greeted others with the familiarity of a middle-aged neighbor, yet she supported sacrificing Penny to protect Grind Sail Town and helped apply social pressure against Ada. During the barbarian attack, her private hatred of the Grinding Sound Fruit surfaced: she burned the fields and laughed as the town's central crop went up in flames. Long afterward, her dead soul remained inside the cursed settlement and admitted responsibility, preserving the resentment that her genial manner had hidden. (Chapters 96–111, 264–265)
Appearance and personality
Jenny is a woman in her forties often seen carrying a basket. She can appear warm and talkative, but fear, conformity, and long-suppressed bitterness make her capable of cruelty and destructive delight.
