Biography

Mentor, researcher, and rebel

Gudo teaches poison and metal to the tower's new apprentices, accepting Keli when her strongest affinity lacks a dedicated mentor and building a laboratory culture that produces dangerous toxins and soul-binding materials. He joins Anze, Rum, and the resurrection conspirators because Gorsa's failure would let them divide the tower, research, and body they covet. The revolt fails, but traces of Gudo's consciousness persist long enough to give Saul information about the Tribunal and Abyssal Eye. That remnant disappears in Chapter 473, ending the mentor rather than creating a continuing diary resident. (Chapters 7–8, 26–40, 232–242, 399–435, and 454–473)

Appearance and personality

Gudo is an intimidating instructor whose lessons use nausea, poison, and practical danger to force attention. He is efficient, technically generous to useful students, and willing to gamble their work and lives on a conspiracy when the research reward is large enough. (Chapters 7–8, 26–40, and 399–435)

He specializes in poison, metal, soul-binding adhesive, laboratory management, and survival through unusual bodily states. His knowledge shapes Keli's Alpha work and the tower's resurrection vessels. (Chapters 7–8, 232–242, and 399–435)

• Keli: Gudo redirects Keli toward metal and toxin research, giving her the laboratory foundation for Alpha. (Chapters 7–8, 223–224, and 399–400)
• Gorsa: He serves Gorsa's project while secretly planning to profit from the Tower Master's corruption and death. (Chapters 399–435)
