Zidao

Zidao, fully named Nong Zidao, is Snowdragon Mountain's leading formation expert in the Swallow Mountain region. His analysis nearly dismantles the Ji clan's Netherwyrm Heavenlock Formation, making him a strategic target despite limited open-battle power.

Biography

Recruited to Oxhorn Mountain

Muse recruits Zidao with Jadechild after the first Snowdragon expedition becomes trapped. Zidao enters the nether fog, quickly sees through the lesser bewildering layer, and begins directing the reinforcements toward Dong Ziqi's group. The death of that group before they can reunite makes his task more urgent. Zidao withdraws behind Jadechild and layered defensive formations so he can concentrate on solving the much deeper Netherwyrm array. (Chapters 109–117)

Escape and return

After Jadechild dies, Zidao uses his sole Lesser Teleportation Dao-seal to escape, leaving his former Fairy Crane mount behind. Snowdragon Mountain later returns with Adept Xu Li, and Zidao resumes the analysis under a snowy white Flood Dragon formation. The Ji clan recognizes that killing him is strategically more important than defeating most direct fighters because his success would strip away their home-ground advantage. (Chapters 118–127)

Distraction and death

Ninefire sacrifices captured spirit-beasts and stages attacks to interrupt Zidao's calculations. The Fairy Crane refuses to strike her former master and self-detonates early; grief over their centuries together damages Zidao's concentration more than the physical assaults. He nevertheless continues working. When Ning returns after his breakthrough, he kills Xu Li, collapses the protective Flood Dragon, and decapitates Zidao while the formation expert is still absorbed in analysis. (Chapters 127–134)

Appearance and personality

The corpus emphasizes Zidao's closed eyes, furrowed concentration, and controlled voice rather than a stable physical portrait. He is analytical enough to ignore nearby battle noise and humble enough to rely on stronger combatants for protection. His bond with the Fairy Crane reveals genuine affection beneath the technical focus; her death becomes the one disturbance he cannot simply exclude from his calculations. (Chapters 112–127)

Abilities and cultivation

Formation analysis

Zidao reads elemental pulses, ley-line changes, and the spatial logic of large arrays to identify routes and weak points. He rapidly solves an ordinary black-fog bewildering formation and gains enough experience with the Netherwyrm Heavenlock Formation to keep making progress even after its ley lines become more complex. The method demands sustained concentration and time, so direct pressure, emotional disruption, or loss of protection can halt it. (Chapters 112–134)

Defensive formation flags

Eight flags create a black tower of light around Zidao and two spirit-beasts while Jadechild's group forms an outer defense. The tower isolates the analyst from sudden attacks and buys time, but it is not an independent victory condition. Once Jadechild and later Xu Li are lost, Zidao has no comparable close-combat answer to Ning. (Chapters 115–119)

Zifu cultivation

Zidao is a capable Zifu Disciple, yet Ninefire explicitly judges that his danger lies in formations rather than open battle. He can participate in group arrays and bind treasures, but does not demonstrate a named personal offensive art. This specialization explains both his strategic value and his need for Jadechild, Xu Li, and formation constructs to screen him. (Chapters 109–134)
