Tathagata

Tathagata is the founder and highest leader of Buddhism in the Three Realms. A primordial True God who gambles his life on reincarnation to master all Five Elements, he becomes an overlord renowned for the strongest golden body and defensive palm-arts in the Three Realms.

Biography

Primordial True God and the rise of Buddhism

Tathagata is born from primordial chaos as a True God with innate command of a Grand Dao. When Pangu's World fills with living beings, he helps develop cultivation and creates Buddhism as a distinct variation of Ki Refining. He eventually masters four of the Five Element Heavenly Daos, but their interference prevents him from comprehending Earth. Rather than accept that limit, he seals his memories, enters reincarnation, and kills himself. (Chapters 560 and 565)

His gamble succeeds in the third life. Reborn as Sakyamuni, prince of a small human kingdom, he reaches the Heavenly Dao of Earth without his former memories obstructing him. The breakthrough restores those memories and completes his mastery of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Buddhism rises from one primordial organization into a central force, with Tathagata as leader of the Buddhist Sangha and one of the Three Realms' supreme overlords. (Chapters 560 and 565)

The Primordial War

During the war that destroys the Primordial Era, Tathagata fights the Lord of All Things. The Outsider's altered body and vast construct armies make him one of the greatest threats to both native chaosworlds. Tathagata uses the Golden Nirmana Body to survive and keep him occupied, nearly dying in the process. The memory of that conflict shapes his caution during the later war for karmic luck; he watches the escalating Realmwars while wondering how many Buddhists will remain at Mount Ling afterward. (Chapters 560 and 566)

Goldriver ambush

The Nuwa Alliance sends Tathagata into the Primordial Ruinworld because his defense and broad-area techniques make him well suited to protecting a squad. Godfiend Witherspike's forces isolate him in the Goldriver world. Tathagata immediately stores Maitreya and the others within his Buddha-Realm Within the Palm, then faces the attackers alone. Saber injures one of his dharma bodies, and Witherspike joins the assault; two elite Elder God attackers steadily drain even Tathagata's enormous reserves. (Chapters 712–718)

Fuxi and Ning work from outside to break the trap, but Witherspike spends the Endless Road formation to isolate Ning. With less than a tenth of his divine power remaining, Tathagata sacrifices additional dharma bodies and converts nearly all available flesh and blood into power. He remains peaceful as death approaches and preserves one final world-like palm strike. Ning breaks free just before Witherspike can finish him, letting Tathagata use the collision to retreat. Ning then carries him to safety. (Chapters 716–720)

The Endwar

Tathagata commands 5,800 Empyrean Gods through a Pangu Genesis Formation, creating an Elder God-level Pangu body. Lord Demonheart shatters the formation, and Tathagata uses Buddha-Realm Within the Palm in the instant of defeat to save as many subordinates as possible, though most perish. After Houyi kills Demonheart, Tathagata argues against continuing the war merely for vengeance: Allfiend is too fast to kill, and forcing withdrawal will preserve far more lives than a costly pursuit. Old Man Yuan's betrayal aborts that settlement. Tathagata helps stop controlled traitors, learns that the Mindlord previously tried and failed to infiltrate his own powerful heart, and joins both alliances against the black-lotus formation. After the Lifeseizer Flower wounds the enemy's soul, Tathagata realizes that every expenditure of divine power also worsens the soul injury and urges the survivors to sustain the attack. (Chapters 747–751)

When the Mindlord finally reaches him, Tathagata knows that his golden body can delay but not reverse the outcome. Capture would let the enemy seal him without paying a comparable price, so he asks the 5,800 remaining Empyrean Gods whether they will enter hell with him. They self-detonate together, forcing back the Mindlord's hands and contributing one final wound. After Ning binds the Chaosverse, he restores Tathagata and the other dead of the Three Realms, reuniting the Buddha with Maitreya and Ananda. (Chapters 752 and 1450)

Appearance and personality

Tathagata is normally seated on an honored throne amid a dazzling halo whose light carries the colors of the Five Elements. He smiles readily and maintains deep calm even when his divine power is nearly exhausted. That serenity is active discipline rather than passivity: he repeatedly wagers his existence for greater insight, stands alone so weaker Buddhists can survive inside his palm-realm, and chooses self-detonation when it produces more protection than surrender. His advice after Demonheart's death also shows that compassion and strategic realism can override revenge. (Chapters 560, 565, 712–720, and 746–752)

Abilities and cultivation

Five Elements and overlord power

Tathagata masters the Heavenly Daos of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Completing the whole set raises his True God and Daofather combat power to that of an ordinary Elder God, the level called “overlord” in the Three Realms. The Five Elements also underpin his sealing and defensive methods, allowing him to lock Heaven and Earth rather than merely exchange direct blows. (Chapters 560, 565, 617, and 720)

Golden Nirmana Body

His Golden Nirmana Body is the strongest defensive body in the Three Realms and is comparable to a top-grade Protocosmic treasure. Saber and Witherspike can strike it without directly injuring the outer shell, forcing them to exhaust Tathagata's divine power or seal him instead. The body is not cost-free immortality: prolonged full-power defense consumes his reserves, and the perfected golden shell cannot simply be converted back into divine power when his internal energy is gone. Buddha-Realm Within the Palm

The Buddha-Realm Within the Palm places a vast major world inside Tathagata's hands. He uses it defensively to collect and protect allies, spatially to lock or contain targets, and offensively through palm-strikes that descend like entire worlds. The art's containment scale makes it especially valuable during formation collapse, when he can save troops in the brief moment before an enemy's next attack. (Chapters 560, 681, 712, 720, and 741)

Palm-arts and Vairocana Guardian Halo

Tathagata devises the Vairocana Guardian Halo and a system of profound palm-arts. The palms are technically more refined than Witherspike's raw claw attacks, letting a weaker True God body redirect or resist an elite Elder God's force. Their defense is described as airtight and can prevent a physically stronger enemy from simply binding him. The corpus names the halo as one of his supreme abilities but gives the palm-realm and golden body clearer mechanical demonstrations. (Chapters 560 and 712–720)

Dharma bodies

Tathagata can manifest distinct Buddhist bodies, including the Great Sun Buddha body and Sakyamuni body. These let him maintain action through losses and sacrifice bodies in final attacks, but their destruction represents a real reduction in power rather than disposable illusions. Witherspike destroys two during the Goldriver campaign and treats that loss as a meaningful strategic gain. (Chapters 712–720)

Heartforce and Dao-heart

His repeated reincarnation tempers his heartforce to the fourth stage and produces exceptional mental resilience. The Mindlord attempts to infiltrate him gradually but cannot gain control; Tathagata defends without even consciously detecting the attack. He is not a dedicated Heartforce Cultivator, and his mental strength is primarily defensive in the documented battles. (Chapters 622 and 748)

• Fuxi: Fuxi helps deconstruct the Goldriver trap and uses Waterflame Apocalypse to slow Witherspike while Tathagata escapes. (Chapters 712–720)
• Ji Ning: Ning breaks the Endless Road formation, rescues Tathagata at Goldriver, fights beside him in the Endwar, and eventually resurrects him. (Chapters 668–752 and 1450)
• Godfiend Witherspike: Witherspike targets Tathagata as a principal overlord and nearly kills him through sustained attrition. (Chapters 712–720)
