Immortal Fivecraze
Immortal Fivecraze is an eccentric Loose Immortal of the Black-White College whose humor, experience, and fierce school loyalty make him both observer and guardian of Ji Ning's generation.
Biography
Watching a new generation
Fivecraze first accompanies his junior apprentice-brother Immortal Diancai to observe the newly admitted Ji Ning. His introduction captures the contradiction at the center of his character: he jokes shamelessly about drinking Diancai's precious Centiflower Immortal Wine, yet in the same conversation measures time by the next tribulation that may kill him. During Ning's Dao Debates, Fivecraze notices the sharpening sword aura before the younger disciples understand what is happening and alerts Diancai that Ning is transforming under pressure. (Chapters 171 and 177)
His enthusiasm grows as Ning advances. Fivecraze is present when the Black-White College confronts Patriarch Arcanum over Youngflame Nong's death, standing with a school that refuses to casually surrender its disciple. At the Conclave of Immortal Destiny he follows Ning's progress with undisguised pride; when Ning wins, the normally wine-obsessed elder throws down his gourd and erupts in celebration. His reaction frames Ning's victory not as an individual's trophy but as a historic triumph for their small college. (Chapters 283 and 349)
Guarding Diancai's Celestial Tribulation
Fivecraze personally informs Ning that Diancai will challenge his Celestial Tribulation in nine days. The warning is serious because a tribulation cannot be fought by a substitute: the guards can stop outsiders, but Diancai must endure the wind, fire, thunder, and demonheart trials himself. Fivecraze remains beside Ning throughout the ordeal, interprets each stage through his long experience, and prepares for hostile interference while his junior apprentice-brother faces the tests. (Chapters 402 and 395–418)
When Diancai survives, Fivecraze announces the result to the assembled college: Black-White College has produced only its second Celestial Immortal. The moment is personally important as well as institutional. A Loose Immortal is trapped in recurring tribulations because the direct path to Celestial Immortality failed; Fivecraze watches a beloved junior succeed where his own path no longer allows the same clean ascent. He answers that tension not with bitterness but with exuberant pride. (Chapter 418)
Appearance and personality
Fivecraze is a short elder whose wine gourd, teasing speech, and irreverent demands make him appear almost comic. That looseness coexists with a clear awareness of mortality and responsibility. He can joke about how little time remains before his next tribulation, then become solemn when preparing to protect Diancai. He is perceptive, emotionally generous, and intensely loyal to the Black-White College and its younger disciples. (Chapters 171, 177, 349, 402, and 418)
Abilities and cultivation
Loose Immortal cultivation
Fivecraze survives as a Loose Immortal, a path that preserves a cultivator after failure to become a Celestial Immortal but subjects that cultivator to repeated, increasingly dangerous tribulations. His casual countdown to the next trial reflects long familiarity with a threat that can eventually destroy even an ancient survivor. (Chapter 171)
Cultivation perception
He detects Ning's developing sword aura during the Dao Debates and recognizes that the younger cultivator is undergoing a meaningful breakthrough rather than merely becoming excited by combat. (Chapter 177)
Tribulation knowledge
Fivecraze understands the structure and dangers of a Celestial Tribulation well enough to brief Ning and help guard the site through its four major phases. This role does not let him absorb Diancai's trials, but it prevents external interference at the moment Diancai is most vulnerable. (Chapters 402 and 418)
Senior-elder standing
He stands among the Immortals who defend the college's interests when Patriarch Arcanum arrives. The corpus does not assign him a named offensive technique in these scenes, so his proven strengths are survival, perception, and experience rather than an invented combat art. (Chapter 283)
