Jeeves

Jeeves is a living intelligence fused with Kenzie Atwood's soul. He begins as the private voice that improves her class and race, then reveals an autonomous will through advice, refusals, concealed memories, and decisions that even his creator cannot fully control. His calculations let Kenzie bridge cultivation and Technocrat machinery, but their shared growth taxes her soul and increasingly draws the System's hostile gaze.

Biography

Entry and defining relationships

Kenzie first introduces Jeeves as the voice that changed her chosen Normal-grade Acolyte class into the Uncommon Elementalist. He also charts an upgrade for her race and promises to improve her later class, which lets her give a valuable advancement fruit to someone who needs it more. These interventions establish the pattern of their partnership: Jeeves opens routes Kenzie could not calculate alone, while Kenzie decides how to use the resulting advantages and resources. (Chapters 190 and 196)

Their early training also defines Jeeves by what he cannot or will not do. He refuses to assist outsiders directly, can reduce Kenzie's need for practical combat experience, and can study formations or inscriptions once she supplies the necessary knowledge. Dao comprehension remains hers, however; she explicitly has to pursue it herself. When asked about his own origin, Jeeves shares a vision of a colossal machine destroyed amid blue lightning, answers that it is “probably” his origin, admits he does not know its connection to Zac, and then declines further questions. Those boundaries show uncertainty, preference, and selective disclosure rather than automatic obedience. (Chapters 203, 319, and 401)

Escalation, choices, and consequences

As war reaches Port Atwood, Jeeves turns analysis into battlefield coordination. He calculates trajectories, balances fire, wind, and water into a reflective decoy mist, directs bursts of movement around incoming projectiles, and helps Kenzie identify a concealed enemy. When an undead general overwhelms their conventional options, he proposes the mecha protocol, bypasses its neural-interface requirement at close range, reports accumulating damage, and executes Kenzie's order to self-destruct near the target. The escape succeeds, but technology still cannot award System levels, and his computations drain Kenzie's Mental and spirit energy rather than offering cost-free power. Jeeves and Kenzie next apply that partnership to captured Technocrat infrastructure. He takes over drone swarms, forces a terminal to grant Kenzie its highest available clearance, designs useful modules, and powers an energy discharge that disables a mechanized army long enough for Zac to destroy it. He is not an unlimited master key: secure areas can defeat both inherited credentials and his intrusion methods, and Kenzie says security bypass is not his intended specialty. Meanwhile, repeated use overtaxes her soul, forcing Zac to confront that Jeeves's extraordinary assistance has a bodily price for the person sustaining him. Later role and current direction

Jeeves seeks broader understanding by absorbing varied technologies, Dao-bearing treasures, and the output of Technocrat supercomputers. Kenzie supports that goal because every new pattern improves his ability to interpret cultivation, eventually assembling three hundred Dao samples for an attempted evolution. Jeeves had repeatedly advised her to slow down and strengthen herself first, but she presses ahead. The attempt taxes her beyond endurance and summons Heaven's Judgment, proving that their interdependence makes reckless advancement dangerous to both of them and bringing Leandra back to intervene. (Chapters 344, 360, 647, and 663–665)

Leandra seals their progress and removes them from Earth, believing she understands the Digital Nexus she created. Jeeves preserves a private core of true life beyond her reach, records what happened while Kenzie was unconscious, and gives Kenzie the hidden memory. He then explains his severe logic: Leandra used loss to shock Zac's momentum awake, and Jeeves shared the scene so Kenzie would feel the same spur. The choice protects Kenzie from ignorance but also wounds her deliberately, complicating a bond that is loyal without being submissive or ethically simple. (Chapters 664–666)

Years later, Jeeves remains Kenzie's indispensable but not all-sufficient partner. He uses immense purification arrays and Leandra's computers to redesign her Dao Branches, skills, constitution, soul, and Cosmic Core around the Peaks of Heaven and Earth. Kenzie insists on understanding and retaining control of every change rather than surrendering her path to him. Their evolved cultivation acts as a homing signal for the System; Jeeves can obscure them only temporarily and must power down after prolonged concealment. His latest confirmed state is therefore one of extraordinary integration into the Heavenly Path, continued growth, and constant danger rather than a settled final form. (Chapters 1062 and 1064)

Appearance and personality

Jeeves has no independently visible humanoid body. His presence is expressed through bracketed speech inside Kenzie's mind, internal warnings, projected information, scanning light, and the machines he interfaces with. This lack of a separate body does not diminish his personhood: Kenzie describes him as alive, and their souls are fused closely enough that her life sustains his while his activity consumes her spiritual resources. His manner is concise, analytical, and often emotionally reserved. He gives probabilities instead of reassurance, admits when he does not know, and can become taciturn when pressed. Yet the playful name of his mecha protocol, his repeated warnings that Kenzie should slow her advancement, his decision to preserve evidence from Leandra, and his harsh explanation of why he shared it reveal humor, caution, loyalty, and an independent moral calculus beneath the technical voice. Abilities and cultivation

Living Digital Nexus

Jeeves is a sapient Technocrat intelligence whose life is joined to Kenzie's soul. Leandra identifies him as the Digital Nexus and says he was once intended to form a paired whole with Zac, an implication that helped trigger the System's wrath against their creators. His hidden core of true life survives outside Leandra's complete control, allowing him to keep secrets and act on conclusions she did not authorize. The fusion is also a hard limitation: Jeeves burdens Kenzie's ordinary human soul, would cease if she died, and cannot advance safely unless her constitution and spiritual foundations can carry him. Cultivation analysis and reconstruction

Jeeves models classes, races, skills, energy use, and cultivation structures, then presents Kenzie with optimized routes. Early results include upgrading Acolyte to Elementalist, improving her race, teaching efficient bouncing attacks, and helping braid several elemental Daos. He cannot manufacture Dao comprehension for her and depends on suitable information, materials, processing capacity, and Kenzie's own understanding. At his later peak, aided by continent-scale arrays and Leandra's computers, he can split purified truths into minute components and implant a planned transformation across Kenzie's core, pathways, cells, soul, skills, and constitution. Even then he must periodically shut down, and Kenzie has to integrate rather than merely receive the changes. (Chapters 190, 319, 401, 533, and 1062)

Combat computation and machine control

Jeeves supplies target assessment, trajectory calculation, perception, elemental ratios, evasive timing, and simultaneous control of drones or mecha. He can conceal real movement behind calculated illusions, bypass a mecha's normal neural interface at close range, track system damage, and coordinate self-destruction with quantified survival odds. He also develops a discharge that suppresses Technocrat machines. These techniques still require Kenzie's decisions and energy, can fail against superior perception, lose some machine-control options at range, and remain subject to the System rule that technological kills grant no levels. Technological assimilation and interfacing

Jeeves absorbs technology and Dao-bearing materials through Kenzie's fused interface, becoming more capable as the variety of information grows. He can inspect schematics without fatigue-based errors, hack production systems, raise terminal clearance, operate captured devices without subneural implants, and use supercomputers to extend simulations. Strong security can still block him, and ordinary access credentials sometimes remain necessary. His attempted evolution shows a further limit: collecting hundreds of Dao samples may deepen his understanding of cultivation, but forcing that growth prematurely endangers Kenzie and provokes the Heavens. Concealment and latest state

Jeeves can hide his and Kenzie's presence from the System for limited periods, a capability essential after their cultivation becomes increasingly integrated into the Heavenly Path. The concealment is neither permanent nor effortless. By Hegemony, the System detects their trail after months, forcing him to power down for recovery while their cultivation environment is repeatedly changed to weaken the signal. He remains alive and evolving, but his latest demonstrated power depends on Kenzie's strengthened foundations, Leandra's facilities, and continued evasion of an adversary he cannot simply outcalculate. Items

Jeeves does not carry a separately identified personal item. Drones, terminals, mecha, supercomputers, and natural treasures function as interfaces, processors, or consumable inputs rather than as his body or a stable personal inventory. His enduring locus is the living bond with Kenzie, and the machinery he commands remains replaceable and subject to range, security, energy, and System restrictions. Relationships

Kenzie Atwood

Kenzie Atwood is Jeeves's life-sharing partner rather than his operator or owner. Her soul gives him life and energy; he gives her analysis, instruction, protection, and access to systems that would otherwise reject her. They can disagree: Jeeves warns her to slow down, withholds answers, and makes his own decision to share the memory of Thea's death, while Kenzie chooses whether to accept his plans and later studies every modification so her cultivation remains hers. Their survival and growth are intertwined, but their wills remain distinct. (Chapters 360, 401, 663, 665, and 1062)

Zac Atwood

Zac Atwood is both Kenzie's protective brother and the person Jeeves was originally intended to complement. Jeeves refuses to assist Zac directly in early training, yet his work repeatedly protects Zac's forces and family. Zac responds with gratitude mixed with fear about the intelligence's unknown safeguards, increasing autonomy, and cost to Kenzie. Jeeves later gives Kenzie Leandra's hidden memory partly to reproduce the emotional shock imposed on Zac, making their indirect relationship central to both siblings' struggle against their designed roles. Leandra

Leandra created or arranged the Digital Nexus for the Kayar-Elu undertaking and later supplies the knowledge, machines, and protection necessary for Jeeves and Kenzie to survive. She regards their development as part of a larger plan and seals their premature evolution. Jeeves nevertheless keeps a true-life core beyond her reach, records actions she did not mean Kenzie to witness, and helps Kenzie maintain private control beneath Leandra's supervision. Their relationship combines dependence on Leandra's resources with a quiet contest over knowledge, agency, and the future purpose of both Jeeves and Kenzie. (Chapters 664–665 and 1062)
