Von Cloff

Von Cloff is the Red Brigade's rank-one disciple and the son of Elder Targress. Talented, vain, and accustomed to acting as the clan's chosen heir, he brutalizes Raze Cromwell and steals a sealed earring. The theft triggers a curse that progressively removes his senses and leaves him unable to communicate or walk.

Biography

Punishing Raze

Von confronts Raze as a self-appointed defender of the Red Brigade's honor. His cultivation is far above the novice's: he disrupts Raze's core, breaks his resistance, steps on his arms, and treats the beating as proof that he is the clan's future. Raze cannot win directly, so he deliberately exposes a sealed black earring as bait. Von takes it both as loot and ornament, turning his vanity into the opening Raze needs. (Chapters 50–51)

The earring's curse

The stolen earring attaches itself to Von, and his failed attempt to unlock it activates a curse. His senses disappear one after another until he cannot see, hear, feel, walk, write, or answer those around him. A physician expects him to remain alive but offers no prospect of recovery. Von finally tears the earring off and reaches the temple in a helpless state; the corpus does not revisit his recovery, death, or continued place in the Red Brigade. (Chapters 51–53 and 56–70)

Appearance and personality

Von is a handsome high-ranking disciple who cares about his appearance and imagines himself as the obvious future clan head. That confidence is paired with cruelty toward a weaker novice and entitlement toward anything attractive or valuable. His decision to wear the earring despite its resistance reflects the same vanity and certainty that status will protect him from consequences. (Chapters 50–52)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Von is a trained Pagna warrior capable of focusing Qi through strikes, suppressing a novice's core, and dominating Raze at close range. The encounter establishes a large cultivation gap but does not provide Von's exact stage, named techniques, or later progression. His ensuing sensory losses are not an ability and do not enhance him; they are the penalty for failing to unlock a sealed item. (Chapters 50–53)

Relationships

• Raze Cromwell: Von attacks and humiliates Raze, who cannot answer through force and instead tempts him into taking the cursed earring.
• Elder Targress: Von is Targress's son and benefits from the expectation that he will inherit influence in the Red Brigade. The corpus does not show Targress reversing the curse.
• Simyon: Simyon later becomes the compatible bearer of the earring after it is properly unsealed. His benefits should not be attributed to Von.

Items

• Black Steel Earring: Von steals the sealed earring from Raze. Because he cannot unlock it, it affixes to him and removes his senses rather than granting its later steel-body function. He tears it free, after which custody eventually passes elsewhere and Simyon becomes its compatible user. (Chapters 50–57)
