Shing

Shing is an Earth-born member of Marcus's Alter squad. His unique perception reaches an unseen world overlapping ordinary reality, allowing him to identify deathly presences and the entity attached to Raze.

Biography

Meeting the Dark Magus

After Marcus introduces the large Earth Otherworlder to the group, Shing becomes disturbed by the death surrounding Raze. He agrees to deepen his vision with a temporary concoction made from power stones and herbs, accepting the risk because the squad needs to understand what is attached to their new ally. The amplified sight reveals piles of dead presences and the Bloody Woman, who notices him in return. Raze restrains the entity before it can reach Shing, leaving Shing with direct evidence that his perception can attract what it observes. (Chapters 458–465)

Defense of the wanderers

During the later city crisis, Shing uses his physical strength alongside the squad rather than relying only on sight. He strikes a creature across a shop, positions himself between danger and civilians, and is assigned with Ponyo to defend the building's entrances while ranged fighters cover the windows. He survives the operation and later receives Raze's thanks; his latest direct status remains alive, although the corpus does not resolve his eventual career in Alter. (Chapters 471–501)

Appearance and personality

Shing is a very large man whose body can block much of a window's light. He is observant, direct about unsettling discoveries, and brave enough to investigate them despite visible risk. In combat he is protective, placing his body where it can shield less capable people.

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Shing's Earth-derived ability lets him tune his eyes to an overlapping realm and see presences ordinarily hidden from others, especially death around individuals and the Bloody Woman attached to Raze. A drink prepared with level-three power stones, herbs, and an urn temporarily strengthens the connection while his body remains in the ordinary world. The deeper view is dangerous: details can remain obscured, and the observed entity can perceive and target him.

He also has significant physical strength, enough to launch a hostile creature with a punch. The corpus does not define this as Pagna cultivation or give it a formal rank, so it should not be conflated with his perception ability.
