Marcel

Marcel is an arrogant official of the Doclet Kingdom who carries royal demands to Flendon and helps King Doclet launch a technologically equipped invasion. He regards Pagna warriors and townspeople as barbarians, then dies when the army he expects to dominate Flendon collapses before the Dark Magus.

Biography

Demand and invasion

Marcel arrives expecting gifts, deference, and immediate access to Flendon's leadership. When the gate guards refuse him, he interprets their independence as rebellion and returns to King Doclet with a grievance. He delights in the kingdom's miniature cannon and mass-produced weapons, dismisses Pagna fighters as primitive, and supports mobilizing the army to reclaim Flendon. His motivation is bound to royal supremacy and his own enjoyment of ordering around people who normally cannot answer an official safely. (Chapters 908–913)

Death outside Flendon

At the siege, Marcel speaks for the king, demands Raze Cromwell, rejects Rayna's attempted negotiation, and announces a deadline before attack. Once Raze destroys the army's confidence and special weapons fail against defended warriors, Marcel abandons his triumphal language and calls for retreat so the kingdom can rally allies. A beam of Dark energy passes through his head immediately after the order, killing him on the battlefield. (Chapters 921–923)

Appearance and personality

Marcel stands with rigid, formal posture and cultivates the manner of a privileged royal representative. His thoughts and speech are openly contemptuous toward Flendon, ordinary people, and Pagna warriors, whom he labels barbaric even while depending on soldiers and technology for force. He is obsequious toward King Doclet, gleeful when power seems assured, and quick to seek retreat when the promised advantage disappears. (Chapters 908–913 and 921–923)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

No magic, Qi cultivation, or direct combat technique is established for Marcel. His influence comes from royal office: he delivers demands, coordinates the king's message, and orders the army's retreat. Knowledge that artifacts exist lets him recognize the defenders' equipment as extraordinary, but he cannot explain or counter it. The beam that kills him meets no demonstrated personal defense. Relationships

• King Doclet: Marcel flatters and advises the king, shares his contempt for Flendon, and helps turn the miniature cannon demonstration into an invasion order.
• Raze Cromwell: Marcel demands Raze's surrender and expects technology to cow him. Raze's intervention destroys that confidence, and a Dark-energy beam kills Marcel during the retreat.
• Rayna: Rayna tries to prevent bloodshed, but Marcel and the king reject her pleas and continue their ultimatum.

Items

• Doclet firearms and miniature cannons: Marcel admires and promotes these royal technologies, but they belong to the kingdom's army rather than to him personally.
