Jake Dove
Jake Dove is Raze Cromwell's former student, closest later friend, and the public author of a successful introductory Wind Magic book they develop together. He is a distinct Alterian person and must not be confused with the alias “Jake” that Raze later uses in Pagna.
Biography
A student returns as a colleague
After Sabrina's death and the destruction of Raze's old life, the adult Jake recognizes his former professor and invites him to drink. Jake proposes that they turn difficult Wind Magic scholarship into an accessible book and repeatedly meets with Raze over roughly a year. Raze refuses public credit, so the work makes Jake famous and wealthy under his own name, but Jake continues to regard the achievement as shared and looks for ways to repay the mentor who taught him. (Chapters 1026–1027)
Investigation, framing, and death
Jake trusts Raze's innocence and investigates the forces behind Sabrina's murder, eventually confronting Ibarin while secretly recording the exchange. Enaxx responds by killing Jake's wife and son, forcing an illegal magical stimulant into Jake, and framing him for their deaths. In jail, Enaxx administers an even larger dose that causes Jake's mana heart to collapse. Raze breaks him out, but cannot undo the damage; Jake reveals the recording's location and dies shortly afterward. Raze destroys the recorder rather than risk the wider plot around it, then carries Jake's murder as a central reason for vengeance. (Chapters 1028–1034)
Appearance and personality
Jake is tall, with short black hair, and appears sharply dressed when he reunites with Raze. Poisoning and imprisonment later leave him frail and malnourished. He is hardworking, talented, loyal, and unusually willing to challenge powerful people when a friend has been wronged. His trust in Raze persists without the proof that would have protected his own reputation.
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Jake is a six-star Wind mage and an accomplished researcher. His spellcraft includes condensed spheres of wind that break into many sharp strands, a structure precise enough to pressure the nine-star Enaxx into activating defensive equipment during a public display. Jake nevertheless acknowledges that this demonstration does not make him Enaxx's equal in a genuine fight.
His lasting contribution is educational rather than purely combative: he and Raze reorganize advanced knowledge into a successful book usable by less experienced Wind mages. The forced stimulant doses do not represent an acquired ability; they destabilize and ultimately destroy his mana heart.
