Crine
Crine Runn is the head of the Flowing Force Clan and father of Mada. A powerful middle-stage warrior whose visual Qi behaves like controllable water, he enforces clan authority through intimidation until Mada and Ricktor defeat him during the academy uprising.
Biography
Clan Head and Father
Crine enters the academy as one of the five dominant Dark Faction clan heads. His exposed muscular shoulders, dismissive confidence, and willingness to discuss faction threats establish him as a senior warrior rather than a ceremonial leader. He also supervises the Flowing Force Clan's interests through subordinates such as Gunther and expects Mada, his son and main disciple, to embody the clan's standing. (Chapters 134, 146, 249, and 480)
That expectation is coercive. During the later tournament, Crine uses his aura and authority to humiliate and physically threaten Mada after perceived failure. When outside mockery challenges him, his anger expands to the arena until Murkel Dockthron intervenes. The episode leaves Mada conditioned to freeze in the presence of his father's Qi and makes their eventual battle a conflict over fear and inheritance as much as faction politics. (Chapters 650–653 and 684)
Defeat by the New Generation
During the academy uprising, Crine confronts Mada and Ricktor together. His water-like visual Qi turns the surrounding ground into his domain, strikes at range from changing angles, extinguishes opposing Qi, and initially overwhelms both students. Mada nonetheless learns to suppress a portion of his father's field, allowing Ricktor to close the gap; their cooperation embodies their explicit determination to replace the old generation rather than submit to it. (Chapters 703–706)
Safa's Stoney statue interrupts Crine's finishing blow and matches his high middle-stage power. Crine condenses his visual water around his legs as armor, damages Stoney with transmitted Qi, and continues fighting even after the statue impales his stomach. Mada and Ricktor exploit the opening together; Crine destroys Stoney with a final kick, acknowledges that his son has beaten him, and falls onto his back with open eyes and a smile. He is soon described as having passed, and later records name Crine Runn among the clan heads who fell at the tournament. (Chapters 711–714 and 804)
Appearance and personality
Crine has relatively short hair, muscular shoulders, and wears less clothing than the other clan heads at his first appearance. In full combat his flowing visual Qi surrounds him like water, later condensing over his legs as blue armor. (Chapters 134 and 711)
He is proud, domineering, and contemptuous of perceived weakness, particularly in Mada. Crine nevertheless recognizes genuine talent: he identifies Mada's rapid adaptation, concedes defeat after the students' coordinated attack, and uses his final words to urge his son to keep moving forward because Crine himself could never overcome Murkel. That late acknowledgement does not erase his abuse, but it reveals awareness of his own limits. (Chapters 704–706 and 712)
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Flowing Force visual Qi
Crine is a middle-stage warrior whose visual Qi resembles water and can be spread over a large area as a controllable domain. He raises walls, waves, spirals, snake-like strikes, and heavy pillars from the field; changes their direction around blocks; wraps the flow around fists and weapons; and sends Qi into an opponent's body. The “water” is pure Qi rather than physical water, so it hits with exceptional weight while retaining fluid movement. Because it remains extended from Crine, Mada can suppress a limited portion with compatible Flowing Force control. (Chapters 703–706)
Close combat and water armor
Crine is also an experienced close-range fighter. He wraps rotating Qi around his arms, punches through Ricktor's defense, and condenses the returned field around his legs into armor that strengthens kicks and can change back into a penetrating water-like extension. The armor and his technique let him contest Stoney's superior raw Qi, but sustained multi-directional pressure forces him to defend, and the statue's spear ultimately impales him. His final destructive kick does not prevent the wound from killing him. (Chapters 706 and 711–714)
Relationships
- Mada: Crine is Mada's father, clan head, and principal source of fear. Mada learns to contest his visual Qi and helps defeat him, receiving a final acknowledgement only after their lethal battle.
- Ricktor: Ricktor fights beside Mada, supplies close pressure while Mada suppresses the domain, and helps turn Crine's family conflict into a victory for their generation.
- Murkel Dockthron: Crine is Murkel's fellow clan head and political subordinate. His final admission suggests Murkel remained the opponent he could not defeat.
- Gunther: Gunther belongs to the Flowing Force Clan and reports academy information to Crine, linking the clan head to events inside the school.
Items
Crine uses an ordinary sword in some appearances, but no uniquely named weapon or artifact is established as his. His water armor is formed from visual Qi and is an ability, not equipment.
