Carl
Carl is a senior local operative of the Rylon Religion who hides predation behind charity. His work at a church brings vulnerable people into a sacrificial system that transfers stolen energy to the being his organization calls the Sun God.
Biography
Charity as recruitment
Carl presents himself to the isolated Charlotte as a cheerful Meister who can offer food, shelter, and work without obligation. That promise masks the church's real process: he abducts her and other people judged expendable, treating their bodies as inputs for a ceremony rather than as followers. His casual violence toward a child caught stealing bread further exposes how quickly the welcoming manner gives way to brutality. (Chapters 952–963)
The cellar ritual and death
When Liam, Simyon, Safa, and Anna enter the church, Carl murders two captives to accelerate the ritual and tries to escape with a jar of accumulated energy. Liam's thrown sword breaks it over him, accidentally flooding Carl with the light-based power. The infusion heals him, greatly amplifies his body and beams, and lets him suppress the rescuers' powers with a silver orb, but it does not give him comparable fighting skill. The group exploits that weakness; Safa ultimately drives her recovered spear through his chest, ending the fight and his attempt to turn the rescuers into further hosts. (Chapters 968–975)
Appearance and personality
No stable physical description beyond his church clothing is established. Carl habitually smiles and uses an upbeat, reassuring manner, even while recruiting victims or describing sacrifice. Under pressure he becomes panicked and opportunistic, yet his devotion remains intense: after absorbing the stored energy, he interprets it as proof of the Sun God's supremacy and imagines himself serving directly beneath that being.
Magic, cultivation, and abilities
Carl's ordinary personal power is not clearly ranked. His strongest state comes from accidental saturation in energy harvested through the church's ritual. The substance closes a stomach wound, fills his eyes with white light, increases his speed and strength, produces hand-fired beams, and rapidly heals cuts. Because the power is borrowed and unfamiliar, Anna identifies his poor combat experience as an exploitable limit.
His silver light-powered orb emits a wide flash that temporarily suppresses Qi, magic, and system-based capabilities. It must be reapplied, and equipment-derived bodily properties can continue to function despite it. Carl can also channel the light energy through the Lux Spear, but this is a temporary seizure of Safa's weapon, not an innate ability or lasting acquisition.
