Beret

Beret is the Lost Clan student selected to represent the Demonic Faction at the three-faction tournament. Quiet during his introduction but fiercely competitive once the events begin, he fights with a dagger and the speed-focused foot techniques for which his clan is known.

Biography

Chosen for the faction tournament

Beret arrives as the Lost Clan's tournament representative and initially introduces himself so softly that he turns partly away from Raze Cromwell. The reserve does not survive competition: he mocks the Light Faction's teamwork and expects personal strength to decide the contest. In the opening beast event, however, his poorly coordinated rush collides with Kaylie's attack, forcing both students to adapt before they help bring the beast down. (Chapters 612–623)

The maze and its aftermath

Because Lost Clan footwork makes him the Demonic team's fastest specialist, Lince assigns Beret to the maze event and privately asks Raze to protect him. Beret tries to win alone, but two coordinated Light Faction students trap and repeatedly wound him where the narrow corridors restrict his movement. Raze intervenes before the killing strike; afterward Beret obeys his direction, searches for the remaining targets, and begins treating the supposed outsider with the deference he would give a clan head. (Chapters 624–631)

Beret remains with the Demonic delegation as the tournament collapses into a wider crisis. He recognizes Liam's copied movement as Lost Clan footwork, reacts defensively when Alba threatens Lince, and helps inspect their room when the leaders anticipate treachery. Evacuated with the other students, he questions whether the Light Faction may attack their convoy and helps connect “Jake's” white hair and power with the Dark Faction's White Dragon, although the group stops short of proving the identity. (Chapters 637–677)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not give Beret a detailed physical description. His introduction emphasizes posture and voice instead: he speaks quietly, turns away from Raze, and gives observers the uneasy impression that approaching too closely might provoke a strike. In competition he is much louder, proud of his clan's speed and quick to dismiss performances he considers unimpressive. (Chapters 612 and 617)

His pride coexists with practical caution. Beret boasts that he could defeat two Light Faction students, yet first tries to negotiate and then retreats when their teamwork makes an unnecessary duel strategically foolish. He resents needing rescue, but does not reject Raze's help or instructions afterward. His loyalty to Lince is immediate, including physically bristling when Alba threatens the clan leader. (Chapters 627–629 and 648)

Magic, cultivation, and abilities

Beret is a Pagna warrior whose Lost Clan training concentrates on legs, speed, evasion, and specialized footwork. Lince calls him the fastest suitable tournament choice, and Beret can gain on Charging Rats, change direction quickly, and kick between walls to climb. His movement is recognizable enough for Liam to copy after seeing it. The techniques remain dependent on space and sight: a constricted dead end and two synchronized attackers sharply limit his evasive options. (Chapters 624–627 and 645)

He channels Qi through ordinary close combat and carries a dagger. Against the tournament beast he attacks a leg while a teammate restrains the other; against the Light Faction pair he uses the dagger to block a rapier after evading the first thrust. His defense cannot withstand repeated concentrated attacks indefinitely, and the corpus does not establish a named personal technique, cultivation stage, or later power progression. Relationships

• Lince: Beret is Lince's student and responds strongly to his confidence and safety concerns. He wants to justify Lince's tournament selection, follows his orders, and reacts when Alba threatens him.
• Raze Cromwell: Beret initially regards “Jake” as a useless unknown. Raze saves him in the maze, after which Beret follows his directions and gradually recognizes both the purity of his Demonic Qi and clues linking him to the White Dragon.
• Liam: They do not form a personal bond, but Beret recognizes Liam's tournament movement as a copy of his own Lost Clan footwork and angrily identifies the imitation.

Items

• Dagger: Beret's ordinary close-combat weapon. He uses it against the tournament beast and to block rapier strikes in the maze; no special grade, enchantment, or later transfer is established. (Chapters 621–622 and 627)
