Witch Craft

Witch Craft is Sienna Merdein's final grimoire, expressed not as an ordinary book but as a concentrated magical construct. It preserves the Eternal Hole formula, serves as the original root of Mer's consciousness, and later inspired a revised copy for the Red Tower of Magic. (Chapters 33, 44, 46, 122, and 321)

History

The supposed three volumes

Witch Craft was publicly described as a three-volume national treasure with no copies. The object kept at Akron, however, appeared as a glowing sphere enclosed by rotating rings rather than bound pages. Sienna had claimed to have taken the second and third volumes when she left Aroth, leaving the first behind under Mer's protection. (Chapters 33 and 44)

Eugene entered the grimoire by supplying mana, which drew his consciousness into a mental sea of magical information. Its optimized Circle formula demonstrated amplification, simplified casting, simultaneous spell activation, and subconscious triggers, while the Eternal Hole continually divided, recombined, and amplified its circles. The density of the material overwhelmed Eugene and had resisted mastery by many Archwizards. (Chapters 46–47)

After approximately two years of study, Eugene used the Eternal Hole as an inspiration for his own Ring Flame Formula rather than reproducing Sienna's method exactly. During the same period, Mer managed access, storage, and privacy around Witch Craft; even after her control formula moved to Eugene, her underlying root remained tied to the grimoire. The original and the revised copy

Sienna later revealed that the story of three volumes was false. The construct at Akron was the complete original, while the supposed royal-family copy and missing volumes were part of a fiction that inflated the grimoire's prestige and controlled access to it. (Chapter 316)

After returning, Sienna made a smaller but improved Witch Craft for the Red Tower. The later version still included the Eternal Hole and other magic, but incorporated the advances Sienna had made since creating the Akron original. The two extant forms therefore represent an original complete work and a later revised copy, not fragments of one incomplete set. (Chapter 321)

Abilities and properties

• Witch Craft stores magic conceptually rather than as conventional written pages. A reader supplies mana and experiences its formulas within an internal mental space. (Chapters 44 and 46)
• Its Eternal Hole formula makes circles multiply, divide, recombine, and amplify without end, supporting exceptional output and efficiency. (Chapters 46–47)
• The optimized system supports reduced or absent incantations, simultaneous casting, subconscious spell imprints, greater power, and lower mana expenditure. (Chapter 46)
• Access does not guarantee comprehension. Eugene fainted and bled from the nose under its information load, while numerous Archwizards failed to master the central formula. (Chapters 46–47)
• Mer safeguards and maintains the original and was initially rooted in it. Her later mobility did not erase that foundational connection. (Chapters 44 and 122)
• The Red Tower version is a later, improved recreation rather than proof that the Akron original was incomplete. (Chapters 316 and 321)
