Signard

Signard is an elven ranger from the war three hundred years ago and the adoptive elder brother of Sienna Merdein. In the present era he guards a refugee village in Samar before relocating with its elves to the Lionheart estate. (Chapters 99 and 134)

Biography

Nahama, Samar, and Sienna's Legacy

Signard fights on the old Helmuth front and loses many fellow rangers to Iris's dark elves. After the Oath ends the war, he leaves the elven domain to pursue revenge alone, contracts the Demonic Disease, and spends centuries in Samar without finding Iris. There he recognizes the reincarnated Hamel, explains Sienna's disappearance and the elves' crisis, and helps Eugene reach the hidden survivors. Signard and the refugee elves later accept sanctuary in the Lionheart forest, where he trains them in swordsmanship. He reunites with Sienna after her return, remains at the estate with his disease stable, and survives through the end of the selected corpus. (Chapters 99–103, 134, 170, 324–325, and 624)

Appearance and personality

Signard has dull green hair, an androgynously beautiful face, and a scar across one cheek. He is wary of outsiders and can be blunt or combative, but he is deeply protective of elves and especially doting toward Sienna. His centuries-long pursuit of Iris shows both loyalty to the dead and an inability to release his desire for revenge. (Chapters 99 and 325)

Abilities and powers

Signard is a veteran ranger and swordsman who fought demonfolk during the ancient war. He can communicate mentally, move with enough stealth and speed to test Eugene at close range, and later teaches swordsmanship to the refugee elves. He is the village's most dangerous direct combatant, but he is not an exceptional wizard and does not claim the ancient barrier protecting the settlement as his own spell. The Demonic Disease remains neither improving nor worsening. (Chapters 99–100, 170, and 325)

• Sienna Merdein: Signard's family raised Sienna, and the two regard each other as elder brother and younger sister despite belonging to different races. (Chapters 99, 308, and 324–325)
