Lavera

Lavera is a one-eyed elf and former slave who helps Eugene Lionheart navigate Samar's slave market. She relocates with the rescued elves to the Lionheart estate, trains as a maid, and eventually becomes one of Eugene's personal attendants. (Chapters 101–115 and 249)

Biography

The Hunt and the Holy Empire

Lavera initially distrusts the human protection proposed for Samar's elves, but volunteers to pose as Eugene's chained merchandise because her direct experience of the slave market makes her an effective guide. Watching him rescue captives and humble an abusive noble changes that hostility into admiration. At the Lionheart estate she becomes an apprentice maid and asks Eugene to accompany her while shopping for a magical prosthetic eye. Iris exploits the outing by kidnapping Lavera to force a confrontation, then secretly leaves a cluster of her darkness inside the elf. Eugene extracts it after Lavera returns, and the object disintegrates near the World Tree. Lavera's helpless abduction becomes a wake-up call that motivates the resident elves, including Lavera, to begin sword training; she later graduates into Eugene's personal service and remains alive with the household through Chapter 618. Appearance and personality

Lavera is a beautiful elf whose right eye was stabbed out by a former master and cauterized, leaving a heavily scarred socket. She later covers it with an eyepatch and wears either the Lionheart maid uniform or formal clothing when off duty. She is perceptive, composed, and practical enough to reenact the outward cruelty of slavery for an infiltration, although danger can still revive understandable fear. Her early suspicion of humans gives way to loyalty, diligence, and concern for Eugene after his actions demonstrate that his protection is genuine. (Chapters 101–103, 157–165, and 249)

Abilities and powers

Lavera's demonstrated strengths at introduction are knowledge and survival experience rather than combat. She understands the slave market's access rules, prices, inspections, and customs well enough to guide Eugene's disguise, and she later develops professional skill as a maid. Like other elves she has very sharp hearing, but the corpus does not show her casting magic, communing with spirits, or using an innate elven power in battle. (Chapters 101–103, 157, and 170)

After Iris kidnaps her without resistance, Lavera and the other forest elves volunteer for swordsmanship training under Signard with support from Lionheart knights. This establishes her decision to reduce her vulnerability, not a demonstrated combat rank: no later scene names a technique, shows her winning a fight, or confirms mastery beyond novice training. Iris herself judges most of the elves unready for immediate battle, with Signard as the exception. (Chapters 165 and 170)

• Eugene Lionheart: Lavera first approaches Eugene as a wary guide, then comes to admire him after the slave-market rescue. He protects her during Iris's kidnapping, removes the darkness hidden in her body, and later appoints her as one of his personal attendants. (Chapters 101–103, 157–165, and 249)
• Narissa: Lavera and Narissa are fellow rescued elves who train together as apprentice maids and later serve Eugene side by side. Lavera often helps Narissa physically and shares the work of the annex with her. (Chapters 101–103, 115, 157, 249, and 618)
