Barang

Barang is a powerful beastfolk mercenary, a son of the former leader Oberon, and the self-proclaimed sworn brother of Jagon. He tracks Eugene to the hidden elven territory in Samar and attempts to force him to reveal its location, only to die when Eugene uses Ignition. (Chapters 110–113, 127–131, and 263)

Biography

Nahama, Samar, and Sienna's Legacy

Barang follows Eugene through Samar by scent and attacks Signard while waiting outside the elven sanctuary. He refuses to name his employer and proposes an unequal “deal” in which Eugene guides him into the domain, treating coercion as the privilege of the strong. Eugene refuses because the sealed elves and Sienna are inside. Barang initially overwhelms the situation through physical power and regeneration, forcing Eugene to activate Ignition. Once outmatched, he ignores his own instinct to retreat, is cut apart, and triggers a suicidal explosion that destroys the sanctuary's barrier but fails to kill Eugene. Later investigation identifies him as an independent high-class mercenary rather than a trusted peer of Jagon. (Chapters 110–113 and 127–131)

Appearance and personality

Barang is a male beastfolk with fur, clawed hands, sharp animal senses, and a physically imposing body. His precise beast species is not explicitly named in his main confrontation, though his appearance is contrasted with Jagon's bear lineage. He is arrogant, cruel, and confident that strength excuses unreasonable demands; that same pride makes him deny an accurate survival instinct when Eugene's power becomes fatal. (Chapters 110–112)

Abilities and powers

Barang can track scents across long distances, move faster than ordinary fighters can follow, and attack with natural claws. Demonic power reinforces his body and allows rapid regeneration comparable to a high-ranking demonfolk: a deeply split palm heals almost immediately, while lost limbs are expected to regenerate with time. He can also shape dark power into a giant claw and convert his remaining power and body into a large suicide explosion. (Chapters 110–113)

His regeneration does not prevent catastrophic destruction, and his speed cannot answer Eugene under Ignition. Eugene judges that defeating Barang without that forbidden technique would have been uncertain, but once Ignition activates, Barang's claws, limbs, and body are progressively cut apart. Relationships

• Eugene Lionheart: Barang tries to force Eugene to expose the elves and underestimates him because of his age. The confrontation pushes Eugene to use Ignition and ends in Barang's death. (Chapters 110–113)
• Jagon: Barang calls Jagon his sworn brother, but later intelligence shows that Jagon had killed Barang's father and ruled the surviving beastfolk through power rather than affection. Barang operates independently as a mercenary. (Chapters 110, 127, and 131)
• Signard: Barang badly wounds Signard after following Eugene to the sanctuary. Signard's attempt to protect the elves helps make compromise impossible. (Chapters 110–113)
