Lorien
Lorien is Varyn's Chosen One and strongest chosen warrior of the Abyss. He joins his patron in an attempt to corrupt and control Alex Rogue, defeats Astolf during their divided battle, and dies after World Cleaver destroys the domain that sustains his abyssal power. (Chapters 297–304)
Biography
Battle for the Abyss
Lorien waits beside Varyn in the seventh layer of the Abyss after the god summons him to eliminate an intruding rival before the Chosen Games. He and his patron deliberately exploit every home-domain advantage: darkness blinds Alex, the arena can corrupt defeated enemies, and their divine bond makes Lorien's death weaken Varyn while Varyn's death would kill Lorien outright. Confident that a single overwhelming strike will settle the battle, Lorien charges Alex with the Abyss Scythe, only for Astolf to intercept him. Lorien initially attacks recklessly and is battered by skeletal hands, but the two continue a prolonged weapon duel while Varyn focuses on Alex. Lorien ultimately beheads Astolf and offers to corrupt the defeated king into a puppet, fulfilling his immediate duty to his patron. (Chapters 297–302)
Alex reverses the encounter by ordering World Cleaver to cut the Abyss itself instead of either opponent. The attack destroys the domain's layers and souls, removes Lorien's abyssal access, and leaves him unable to summon his scythe, yet he continues the mission with an ordinary sword rather than surrendering. His remaining physical strength is substantial, but years of reliance on the Abyss have left his technique weaker than Alex's. Super Dash cannot save him because Destiny Shift resets every escape, repeated wounds trigger catastrophic bleeding, and Alex kills him by cutting his throat. Because the Chosen bond remains active at death, Lorien's loss halves Varyn's power for two weeks and makes the god's own defeat inevitable. (Chapters 303–304)
Appearance and personality
Lorien appears as an armored male warrior with crimson wings, a black halo, sharp teeth, and a confident grin. He is aggressive, loyal to Varyn, and eager to prove that the Abyss's chosen champion can overwhelm an intruder, but he is not entirely heedless: after his first reckless charge fails, he acknowledges Varyn's warning. Victory over Astolf reinforces that confidence. Once the Abyss is severed, his movements become desperate and his taunts give way to rage, yet he continues attacking despite the loss of the power on which he had relied for centuries. (Chapters 297–304)
Skills and system abilities
Lorien is displayed as a level-2,000 Divine combatant whose skills are hidden while he remains within the Abyss. As Varyn's Chosen One, he inherits abyssal power and shares a life-and-power bond with his patron: Varyn's death would kill him, while Lorien's death weakens Varyn by half for two weeks. The Abyss supplies much of Lorien's strength and lets him see in its supernatural darkness, but World Cleaver proves that this access is conditional. Destroying the domain strips away his title-derived abilities without erasing his underlying physical strength or swordsmanship. (Chapters 297–304)
Abyss Scythe
Lorien summons the Abyss Scythe for his opening attack and uses it through his extended duel with Astolf. The weapon supports rapid close-range assaults powerful enough for him eventually to behead the Undead King. Varyn carries a different weapon, the Scythe of the Damned, so their similarly themed arms should not be merged. When World Cleaver severs Lorien from the Abyss, he can no longer summon the Abyss Scythe and must replace it with an ordinary sword, establishing the weapon's dependence on his domain-derived power. (Chapters 299–304)
Speed and close combat
Lorien can move at speeds that distort the air and later activates Super Dash to cross the collapsing arena at blinding speed. He also withstands repeated billion-scale wounds and continues fighting after the loss of his abyssal skills. These strengths do not compensate for his reduced technique outside the domain: Alex reads his sword attacks, reverses Super Dash with Destiny Shift, and exploits bleeding until Lorien can no longer move. The source names no activation cost or cooldown for Super Dash. (Chapters 299 and 304)
Relationships
- Varyn: Lorien serves Varyn as his Chosen One, communicates with him telepathically, and follows his plan to kill and corrupt Alex. Their divine bond ties Lorien's survival and power directly to the god and the Abyss. (Chapters 298–304)
- Astolf: Astolf intercepts Lorien's attack on Alex and becomes his principal opponent. Lorien survives the king's initial necromantic counterattack and eventually beheads him, although Astolf is scheduled to revive through his contract. (Chapters 299–302 and 305)
- Alex Rogue: Lorien regards Alex as a rival Chosen One to eliminate before the Games. After losing his abyssal powers, he attacks Alex directly but is trapped by Destiny Shift and killed. (Chapters 297–304)
Items
- Abyss Scythe: Lorien's signature weapon is summoned through his abyssal power and becomes unavailable when World Cleaver destroys the Abyss. Alex extracts the Artifact+ weapon after Lorien's death. (Chapters 299 and 303–305)
