Zorana

Zorana is Maveith’s older sister, whom he believed lost after orc slavers captured her and Myra. Eryk first creates a dreamscape manifestation of her to help Maveith process his guilt; the real Zorana later returns with the rescued goliaths to her homeland. (Chapters 89, 136–157, 234–324)

Biography

Memory and grief in the dreamscape

Maveith tells Eryk that he has an older sister named Zorana. After Eryk invites him into the dreamscape, he creates a manifestation based on Maveith’s memory. The manifestation confronts Maveith with his guilt over not stopping the orcs who killed her and took Myra; Eryk directs it to forgive him, allowing Maveith to say goodbye. This encounter is explicitly a dreamscape creation, not the real Zorana. (Chapters 89, 136)

Maveith continues using the dreamscape to speak with the manifestation of his sister. He finds the experience cathartic and values being able to see her again, while Eryk recognizes that this is a constructed memory rather than a return from the dead. The imagined Zorana also appears among the people Eryk creates in the dreamscape, including during practice and recreation. (Chapters 139, 157, 170, 187, 211)

Rescue and return home

The real Zorana is among the goliaths captured by slavers and sold in the Caliphate. Eryk and Maveith learn that Rhuuk had purchased her, and their search becomes part of the effort to help Mynasha succeed in the Choosing. After the trials and dungeon expedition, the group returns to Stone Mountain Island with Zorana and Myra. (Chapters 234, 242, 290–321)

During the voyage and after arrival, Zorana is quiet but begins to show renewed interest in her home. She shares knowledge about the surrounding reefs and mermen with Eryk and later helps Maveith’s father regain his strength. The family reunion does not erase the years of separation, but it gives Maveith a chance to return his sister to the place she remembers. (Chapters 322, 324, 331)

Appearance and personality

In Maveith’s memory, Zorana is a gray-skinned, bald goliath with emerald eyes, shorter and leaner than her brother. The real Zorana appears subdued after captivity, then shows more interest when she sees her homeland. She is described as Maveith’s older sister and as someone who shares knowledge about island life. (Chapters 89, 136, 303, 322)

Magic and abilities

No personal magic or numeric ability score is established for Zorana. Her documented contributions are knowledge of her homeland and support for Maveith’s father after the family’s return. (Chapters 322, 331)
