Linus

Linus is the medic assigned to Eryk’s company. He treats the soldiers with practical supplies and keeps working through the company’s dangerous campaigns, often caring for the wounded while the rest of the unit fights. (Chapters 10, 14–16, 20–22, 27, 43, 55)

Biography

The company medic

Eryk first meets Linus while being sent to the company medic after training. Linus and his assistant Malcolm use salves and bandages to treat injuries, giving Eryk an early view of how the soldiers care for one another when no healing mage is available. Linus later treats Mateo’s wound and checks in on Eryk after the fight that caused it. (Chapters 10, 27)

During the company’s early missions, Linus accompanies the soldiers into danger. He asks for healing potions before a fight with an ogre and treats injuries during the company’s defense of the city. His work is not limited to tending a single patient: he remains part of the unit’s operations and moves with the group when it is needed elsewhere. (Chapters 14–16, 20–22, 43–46)

After the fighting, Linus continues caring for the wounded. Eryk sees him treating arrow wounds with a healing salve, which can close injuries and limit bleeding but cannot repair internal damage. Linus remains a familiar presence in the company’s daily routines as it travels and prepares for new assignments. (Chapters 55, 61–63, 68–73)

Appearance and personality

The text gives little physical description of Linus. In his medical work he is composed and practical, focusing on the condition of the soldiers and the supplies needed to keep them moving. (Chapters 10, 14, 22, 55)

Magic and abilities

Linus serves as a medic and uses salves, bandages, and healing potions to treat ordinary battlefield injuries. The chapters do not identify him as a mage or give him a personal spell form. (Chapters 10, 14–16, 22, 55)
