Lareen
Lareen is an attendant at the Duchess of Sobral’s Citadel who looks after Eryk during his first stay in the city. Their relationship grows from the duties of a servant and guest into a brief, mutual intimacy before Eryk leaves with the company. (Chapters 80–86, 93–110)

Eryk’s attendant at the Citadel
Lareen introduces herself to Eryk after he is assigned a room at the Citadel. She explains the bathing facilities, helps clean his clothes, and handles the daily work that keeps his room ready. Eryk initially follows Castile’s order to keep his distance, but Lareen’s humor and steady presence make their interactions less formal. (Chapters 80–82)
During Eryk’s stay, Lareen helps with the practical needs of his room and joins the routines of the household. She cleans and prepares meals, while Eryk gradually becomes more comfortable speaking with her. Their early exchanges reveal her wit and confidence; she can tease him when he is awkward and does not simply accept his assumptions about the people serving him. (Chapters 82–86)
Before Eryk leaves with the company, he and Lareen share a night together. Eryk says he will return in a few weeks, and he leaves his griffin-down pillow in her room. The text later shows him remembering Lareen while away, but it does not establish a lasting relationship or confirm what happens between them after the separation. (Chapters 93–110)
Appearance and personality
Lareen has light-brown hair and is described as just over five feet tall. She is observant, playful, and comfortable challenging Eryk when he misunderstands her work or intentions. (Chapters 80–82, 101–102)
Magic and abilities
Lareen is a household servant, not a trained combatant in the scenes shown. Eryk mentions that she has a spell form capable of drying clothes quickly, but the story does not describe its mechanics or establish other magical abilities. (Chapter 100)
