Cellblock D's Opportunity

Sun Peng receives Bai Xiaochun's disguised identity as a new guard, explains Cellblock D's organization, and assigns him to Squad 9. Once Bai demonstrates an extraordinary talent for interrogation, Sun sees an opportunity for his cellblock to win recognition before Warden Li Xu. He authorizes Bai to enter freely and interrogate prisoners, benefits from the resulting division of proceeds, and recommends him when the prison needs critical information from a difficult captive. That sponsorship also exposes Sun to risk when Li turns the test into a threat of expulsion, but Bai's success vindicates the recommendation.
