Biography

Interrogation and the Escape Formations

Lu Shiyou enters Devil Penitentiary with his cultivation ruined, less than ten years to live, and no fear of ordinary interrogation. He initially offers to reveal his loot only after a decade of extravagant comfort. Bai's Aphrodisiac Pill affects him in the opposite way expected: instead of prolonged torment, it briefly intoxicates him and even begins reopening his blocked qi passageways, making denial of another dose unbearable. Lu first gives up the location of his loot, then bargains with a greater secret. His ancestor helped build Giant Ghost City's defenses and left hundreds of concealed teleportation formations, including a true escape route hidden among decoys. Lu intends to use Bai's pills and sealing access, then kill him during a joint escape. Bai recognizes the danger and kills him after confirming the operational details. Later discoveries prove that the trap golem and distant escape formation Lu described were real, though Lu himself never benefits from them. (Chapters 643–645 and 654–660)

Appearance and personality

Lu Shiyou is a middle-aged soul cultivator who initially appears completely at ease in his cell. The source gives no further stable physical features. He is treacherous, hedonistic, and confident in his bargaining position, yet also resourceful enough to preserve an ancestral infrastructure secret after his cultivation is crippled. His desperate reaction to renewed hope makes him disclose too much, and his plan to betray Bai is reciprocated before it can be attempted. (Chapters 643–644)

Abilities and cultivation

Lu's former cultivation realm and techniques are not supplied; by his appearance, his cultivation base is destroyed and his qi passageways are blocked. Aphrodisiac Pills produce signs of recovery, but the process is interrupted by his death and does not establish a restored realm. His most consequential expertise is inherited knowledge of Giant Ghost City's spell formations: their locations, decoy structure, soul-medicine activation, sealing access, and one route leading 50,000 kilometers beyond the city. He did not create those formations himself. (Chapters 643–644 and 654–660)

Relationships

  • Bai Xiaochun: Lu trades intelligence to Bai in exchange for pills while secretly planning to exploit and kill him. Bai detects the danger, takes the information, and kills Lu to keep the escape route secret.
  • Lu Shiyou's ancestor: An unnamed grandmaster of spell formations who helped construct Giant Ghost City and left the hidden network Lu later tries to activate.
  • Cellblock B guards: They want Lu's loot location and accept his death once Bai supplies that information and waives his share.
