Jia Lie is one of Xuemei's strongest Dharma protectors during the Blood Master trial and a recurring opponent of Bai Xiaochun's Nightcrypt identity who later serves in the united River-Defying Sect. (Chapters 243–361)

Biography

Blood Master Rivalry and Later Alliance

Confident that he can dominate nearly all of Song Junwan's Dharma protectors, Jia Lie targets Nightcrypt during the Blood Master contest and repeatedly pursues him through the bloodbeast-filled trial. His certainty collapses as lightning, beasts, and Bai's unexpected power repeatedly injure or corner him. When Bai ultimately spares him, Jia leaves with terror and an indelible image of Nightcrypt as the trial's dominant figure. Sect unification later converts that personal rivalry into common service: Jia joins the Blood Stream Division's Foundation Establishment forces, fights in the River-Defying campaign, and witnesses Bai's ascent without attempting to renew their old conflict. Appearance and personality

Jia is described as gaunt before a black armor technique enlarges his body with partly corporeal, partly illusory muscle. He begins proud, aggressive, and certain of his superiority, then becomes fearful and pragmatic after repeated near-death experiences. The corpus gives little private characterization after unification. (Chapters 243–245)

Abilities and cultivation

Jia is a powerful Foundation Establishment cultivator who forms a huge blood-colored hand and can activate black armor from a symbol on his forehead. The armor heals injuries and increases his physical presence, but it does not let him overcome the trial's hazards or Bai. His later fighting occurs within larger River-Defying forces rather than through another isolated technique. (Chapters 243–245 and 324–331)

Relationships

  • Xuemei: The Blood Stream chosen he serves as a Dharma protector.
  • Bai Xiaochun: Initially his intended victim under the Nightcrypt identity; Bai defeats and spares him, permanently changing Jia's confidence.
  • Song Junwan: Leader of the opposing Dharma-protector faction and later a commander in the same united sect.
