Biography

Chosen Career and Search for His Sister

Gongsun Yun begins as one of the Spirit Stream Sect north bank's five great chosen, entering the interbank competition despite knowing that Ghostfang is stronger. He later serves in the River-Defying Sect's wartime formations, but his cultivation advances only to early Core Formation and his former fame fades. When Bai Xiaochun returns, Gongsun approaches him despite intense nervousness because he still hopes for news of Wan'er. Bai cannot tell him that she died in the Fallen Sword Abyss and that Ghostmother's banesoul later used her body, so he offers a false story of heroic sacrifice. Gongsun recognizes the finality of the answer and leaves in tears. No later fate is supplied. (Chapters 86–92, 267–331, and 877–878)

Appearance and personality

He habitually wears a black robe filled with insects; rumors even claim his body contains eggs, though the corpus does not verify that claim. As a young chosen he is grim and unwilling to concede, while age leaves him more subdued. His grief for Wan'er shows enduring family loyalty beneath the frightening reputation. Abilities and cultivation

Gongsun practices the Dao of insects. Black bugs flow from his clothing in swarms, cover opponents, and are said to bore into flesh and consume blood; he can also display insects writhing in his eyes. By Chapter 877 he has reached early Core Formation, but no later technique or breakthrough is shown. (Chapters 86–92 and 877)

Relationships

  • Gongsun Wan'er: His younger sister, whose death he suspects and eventually mourns. Her body's later possessor is not his original sister.
