Jin Byuk-ho

Jin Byuk-ho is the Supreme Sect Master of the Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect. A severe lightning cultivator whose temper is as conspicuous as his golden robes, he carries the burden of restoring his weakened school and guarding its sacred Heavenly Lightning Banner. His treatment of gifted disciples begins as possessive and suspicious, but his hopes for the sect gradually become inseparable from trust in the people who may inherit it.

Biography

In the lower Ascension Path, Jin Byuk-ho descends as a Heavenly Being cultivator to search for disciples. He forcibly examines spiritual roots, immediately recognizes Jeon Myeong-hoon's Heavenly Golden Thunder Body, and repeatedly takes the gifted newcomer into the Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect. His methods are rough and acquisitive, but sect duty also places him among the leaders who block the Mad Lord from seizing promising juniors and who defend the Ascension Path before leaving for the Bright Cold Realm. After establishing himself on Thunder Spirit Island, Jin becomes the only Four-Axis cultivator of the restored sect and the person principally entrusted with its sacred artifact. The Heavenly Lightning Banner is normally sealed on Thunder Cloud Peak, where retrieval is reserved to the sect leader under tightly controlled ritual rules. A rumor that Jin killed a Four-Axis elder in one strike makes even Seo Eun-hyun uncertain how much of the feat belonged to Jin and how much to the Banner. (Chapter 207)

When Seo infiltrates the sect through Jeon's body and touches the Banner, Jin returns at lightning speed, pulls Jeon out of danger, burns away the consciousness spell lodged in his disciple, and reclaims the artifact the moment he extends his hand. He pursues the intruder as both a threat to the sect and a violator of its inherited authority. The confrontation ends when the being connected to the Banner descends: Jin begins turning into lightning, warns Seo not to listen to its words, and is overwhelmed along with the future he was trying to protect. (Chapters 208–211)

From suspicion to a chosen successor

In the following cycle, Jin again has to secure a fragile institution while judging talents capable of transforming it. He accepts Seo under the sect name Jin Eun-hyun, arranges instruction, and watches both Seo and Jeon advance at speeds that strain ordinary expectations. His explosive suspicion never disappears, especially where the Banner and sect law are concerned, yet he increasingly treats their growth as the basis for the Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect's restoration rather than merely as assets to be controlled. (Chapters 222–244)

Seo's theft of the Banner appears to shatter that developing trust. Jin personally manages the resulting factional turmoil, moves toward Seo's formal expulsion, and warns Hong Su-ryeong that continued support for the fugitive will carry institutional consequences. When Jeon later returns the Banner, Jin openly admits that he had misjudged him, names him the sect's true successor and disciple, and turns a humiliating crisis into a public transfer of confidence. (Chapters 254, 259)

With the artifact recovered, Jin rebuilds the Thunder Tribute Hall, seals the Banner again, and looks toward a peaceful succession that includes Jeon and his granddaughter Jin So-hae. That hope is precisely what the higher authority behind the Banner destroys. When heavenly punishment descends, Jin is unable to recognize the threat that Jeon sees, attacks Jeon for touching the sacred object, and is consumed with the rest of the sect. His final catastrophe exposes the limit of stewardship built around an inheritance whose true master stands beyond his control. (Chapters 260–263)

Appearance and personality

Jin is a middle-aged man commonly shown in golden robes, surrounded by golden lightning. His anger is immediate and physical: his face reddens, his eyes become bloodshot, and lightning or celestial weather gathers around him. That volatility makes him frightening even to his own disciples, but it does not exhaust his character. He defends recruits against outside seizure, bears responsibility for a damaged sect, cares about Jin So-hae's future, and can acknowledge his own error when Jeon proves worthy of succession. (Chapters 50, 76, 93, 139, 207–230, 259–260)

Abilities and cultivation

Jin follows the Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect's lightning path and is its strongest confirmed formal cultivator during the Thunder Spirit Island era. His personal cultivation, sect methods, and privileged command of the Heavenly Lightning Banner reinforce one another, so some of his most overwhelming displays cannot be cleanly separated into innate power and artifact-assisted authority. Four-Axis cultivation and Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder

By the time the sect is established on Thunder Spirit Island, Jin is an early Four-Axis cultivator who has not yet built an Axis. His cultivation nevertheless supports extreme-speed movement, attraction powerful enough to pull Jeon to him, and lightning capable of burning a consciousness parasite out of Jeon's upper dantian. In battle, he can call down hundreds of bolts across an area and pressure opponents who possess several different defensive systems. His formal limitation is clear: he remains at the early Four-Axis stage, and the Banner materially amplifies his threat. (Chapters 207, 209–210)

Jin's sect techniques also give him fine enough control to use lightning for restraint, pursuit, and institutional enforcement rather than only destruction. His demonstrated attack power includes a report that he slew a Grand Perfection Four-Axis elder in one strike, but the story presents that feat as a rumor and explicitly leaves unresolved whether it reflected Jin's own capability, favorable circumstances, or the Heavenly Lightning Banner. His latest independent cultivation remains Four-Axis; no later formal advancement is established before his death. (Chapters 207–210, 263)

The Banner is a sect inheritance rather than an innate ability. Under normal practice it is sealed in the Thunder Tribute Hall and may be handled by the sect leader, although elders can retrieve it under exceptional rules. When Jin extends his hand, the Banner flies to him, changes size to fit his grip, and communicates intent with him. Wielded together with his lightning cultivation, it attracts targets, directs storms of golden lightning, and makes him substantially more dangerous than his bare formal stage suggests. (Chapters 207, 209–210, 260)

That authority is conditional, not ownership in the absolute sense. Jin can retrieve and reseal the Banner, but its connection to the Owner of Heavenly Punishment reaches beyond sect formations and succession rules. Direct exposure lets him hear words that less attuned witnesses cannot perceive, begins transforming his body into lightning, and ultimately turns his devotion to the artifact against his own family and disciples. At his latest appearance, this higher authority overrides his judgment before he and the sect are reduced to ash. (Chapters 211, 260–263)

Lightning-path perception and its limit

Jin's mastery of lightning methods makes him sensitive to the will transmitted through the Banner. This perception initially provides a warning: during the first descent, he recognizes speech in the otherwise destructive phenomenon and tells Seo not to listen. The same resonance is also a vulnerability. He cannot safely resist or interpret the speaker, and in the later catastrophe he fails to see the danger Jeon recognizes, treating Jeon's attempt to strengthen the seal as betrayal. Thus, his deepest connection to the sect's legacy becomes the channel through which his agency is defeated. (Chapters 211, 262–263)

Relationships

Jeon Myeong-hoon: Jin first values Jeon's Heavenly Golden Thunder Body as the sect's rarest prospect. Their relationship becomes more personal and demanding as Jin trains him, doubts him, and finally recognizes him publicly as the true successor who recovered the Banner. Jeon's bond with Jin So-hae also makes him prospective family rather than merely a disciple. (Chapters 50, 207–210, 222–260)
Seo Eun-hyun: Across different cycles, Seo is an intruder, a remarkable recruit under the name Jin Eun-hyun, and a potential successor. Jin's guarded confidence turns to anger when Seo steals the Banner without explaining the danger. Jin So-hae: Jin So-hae is Jin's granddaughter and an important part of the continuity he wants for the sect. Her partnership with Jeon links his family hopes to his succession plans, making the final destruction of the Golden Divine Heavenly Thunder Sect a personal loss as well as an institutional one. The Heavenly Lightning Banner is the sacred artifact under Jin's custody as Supreme Sect Master. It authenticates sect authority, reinforces his lightning techniques, and becomes the focus of his conflicts with Seo and Jeon.
