After leaving her job as a hotel lobby manager, Ying uses the identity Fallen Leaves Know Flowers to create betting pools around major news, earning more than thirty-six million Net Coins and drawing the Homeland Defense Bureau's attention. The promise of a gamble between entire civilizations persuades her to join Du Ge immediately, because its scale offers more keyword growth than private casino play. She then works within the bureau while urging that Bi Xing's coming war be turned into a public stake. (Chapters 466–480)

Ying eventually announces Gambling openly and creates odds on war between Bi Xing and the Hill Civilization. Mass participation drives her to second place, though the fact that not everyone can gamble leaves her behind Du Ge. When his apparent weakness creates an opportunity to betray him, she refuses because doing so would violate her conscience after he honored his promises; she instead joins the expedition, accepting that even enhanced attributes permit only limited survival in open space.
