Preserving the sect by accepting a new ancestor

Xu first treats Du Ge as a dangerous cause of disorder and reprimands the disciples whose actions expose Dragon and Tiger Mountain to celestial suspicion. His resistance weakens when he examines the rebuilt Dao foundations of Liao Jiulong and the others and witnesses benefits the established sect cannot reproduce. Faced with supernatural transformation, compromised disciples, and pressure from both heaven and Du Ge, Xu chooses accommodation and eventually kneels before the newcomer as the sect's ancestor. That surrender is also an attempt to preserve Dragon and Tiger Mountain. Xu publicly insists that Du Ge is a true lord rather than a chaotic demon and tries to fold the upheaval into sect lineage, but the scale of Du Ge's conflict destroys any easy return to neutrality. Xu survives by accepting that institutional goodwill and celestial recognition are less useful than allegiance to the power already reshaping his disciples. (Chapters 543–566)
