Raphael is an archangel assigned to watch the demon realm whose suspicion of Du Ge gives way to sincere submission to his divine campaign.

Biography

From divine observer to committed follower

Raphael's duties center on monitoring incursions from the demon realm, placing him at the frontier between the temple's established order and its greatest external threat. When he meets Du Ge, he questions the newcomer's claims and intentions rather than accepting divine authority at face value. Du Ge's public commitment to justice and his willingness to confront the old gods gradually answer that suspicion, and Raphael submits sincerely rather than merely yielding to superior force. Raphael then enters the demon realm as part of Du Ge's campaign. His straightforward and compassionate temperament leaves him less suited to intrigue than several of his companions, but his archangel strength allows him to survive among powerful dark creatures and contribute to the invasion. His latest role is therefore both military and symbolic: an established servant of the Sun God's order who validates Du Ge's replacement coalition through genuine allegiance. (Chapters 443–446)
