Feng Jiu

Feng Jiu is the name by which Xu Sheng first becomes known after possessing a wounded Feng-family sparring partner. A clever but insecure candidate from a civilian academy, he repeatedly crosses paths with Du Ge: first as a would-be partner and bitter rival, then as the defeated Bao Benwei, and finally as one of the Qi Yuan Star warriors who survives by rejoining Du Ge's forces.

Biography

An alliance built on mutual suspicion

Feng Jiu begins the first simulation badly injured but already adapting his Gluttony keyword by eating rice and even his straw mat. He recognizes that the amnesiac Du Ge is another participant, explains body possession, rankings, the Feng family's circumstances, and the expected martial-world main story, then proposes cooperation between his growth-oriented keyword and Du Ge's apparent support keyword. His friendliness is conditional: he stresses that their relationship need last only for the simulation and promises access to an elite academy he does not actually represent. His real plan is to recover first and eliminate Du Ge, but Du Ge's Maintenance grows faster and reverses their balance of power (Chapters 1–3, 14, 90).

Du Ge exposes both men to the Feng family and turns Feng Jiu's visible recovery into proof of their supernatural nature. Feng Jiu resents being restrained, force-fed, and repeatedly offered as an experiment, yet he does more than complain: he warns Feng Shiren that Du Ge may be concealing his true keyword and argues that Gluttony is easier for the family to control. He also recognizes that Du Ge's broader interpretation of keywords is producing extraordinary growth. When Du Ge urges him to embody greed without accepting ordinary fullness as a stopping point, Feng Jiu adopts the lesson with punishing resolve, using digestive medicines and laxatives so he can continue eating even after his stomach ruptures and heals (Chapters 4–8, 12–13).

The rivalry briefly acquires a measure of respect. Feng Jiu admits that he lied about his elite background, warns Du Ge that civilian students resent elite candidates and may target anyone who looks privileged, and offers to remain with the Feng family, receive other candidates, and pass along Du Ge's proposed goodwill. Du Ge nevertheless distrusts him and arranges for Feng Shiren to immobilize him after his departure. Feng Jiu tries to persuade the family that Du Ge may be using Deception rather than Maintenance, but his inability to overturn Du Ge's influence leaves him trapped and turns lingering jealousy into open hatred (Chapters 13–15).

Gluttony against the Peacekeeping Gang

When the Iron Palm Gang attacks the Feng family, its men take Feng Jiu and the principal Feng relatives toward Luyang City. Feng Jiu uses the journey to keep eating and strengthening himself, while advising the gang on how keyword users can be opposed. He proposes destroying the credibility of Du Ge's peacekeeping work to weaken Maintenance, but cautions that the public keyword may be a disguise. He is less interested in saving the Iron Palm Gang than in assembling enough candidates and native allies to kill the rival who humiliated him; by this point, he is willing to lose the simulation if Du Ge loses with him (Chapters 39–40).

Feng Jiu's advice fails to stop Du Ge, and at their next confrontation he first asks to defect, then asks for time to enjoy the world's food. When neither plea secures his safety, he activates Glutton's Mark and tries to devour Du Ge's allies. The transformation nearly lets him catch Wang San, but Wang San's Fear of Beauty forces the beast to flee while Du Ge repeatedly attacks its vulnerable rear. After roughly two minutes of pursuit and accumulating wounds, Feng Jiu returns to human form, collapses, and is eliminated. The loss makes him a notorious example of a strong keyword ruined by a bad early position, while also leaving Du Ge wary of advanced skills that can overturn apparent ranking differences (Chapters 47–49, 64, 82, 88, 177).

The Bao Benwei rematch

In the next simulation, Xu Sheng hides his identity behind the elderly Bao Benwei because his first defeat has made “Feng Jiu” a laughingstock. Having watched the previous simulation repeatedly, he believes Du Ge's tendency to exploit rather than immediately kill useful people is a weakness he can use. With the Mockery keyword and a pair of pistols, he ambushes Du Ge while continuously insulting him; the resulting agitation disrupts Du Ge's concentration and brings Xu Sheng close to eliminating him. Du Ge counters at close range, prevents him from speaking freely, and uses Everything Is Tradable to strip away first his keyword and then his advanced skill (Chapters 104–106).

Left without his growth mechanism, Xu Sheng chooses proximity over futile resistance. He follows Du Ge to study how he operates, hoping to correct his own tendency to be too clever and eventually repay the humiliation. His impatience still leads him astray: he seeks an agency position that cannot generate independent influence, then trades mental power for promised eliminations and rank. When Du Ge discovers that a transferred first-place ranking can briefly award mental power, Xu Sheng reveals his real name and school, supports widening the benefit to other Qi Yuan Star candidates, and joins an agreement of mutual assistance. Defeat thus changes his tactics from immediate revenge to learning, bargaining, and survival without removing his desire to surpass Du Ge someday (Chapters 106, 113, 116).

From reluctant teammate to survivor

Xu Sheng is later selected for the Alien Star Battlefield alongside other candidates who have previously worked with Du Ge. Du Ge initially resists taking familiar people because personal ties could become liabilities, but Xu Sheng and the others expect their prior coordination to help them survive. On the battlefield, Xu Sheng receives the poor combat keyword Inferiority and develops Self-Abandonment, a defensive escape skill rather than an offensive path. Unable to build a strong independent position, he eventually reaches Du Ge's expanding coalition, where he is placed in the army and given the star title Earth Waste Star (Chapters 297, 374).

This reunion succeeds where their first partnership failed. Feng Jiu no longer tries to sabotage Du Ge, while Du Ge accepts even companions whose keywords add little to the coalition's victories. Xu Sheng survives the battlefield and returns to Qi Yuan Star as one of the few familiar candidates still alive. His latest confirmed position is therefore not that of a powerful specialist, but of a veteran who has finally converted repeated defeats and an unpromising skill into survival (Chapters 374, 376).

Keywords, skills, and cultivation

Gluttony

Gluttony rewards Feng Jiu for continuing to eat. Even unpalatable material such as a grass mat counts, and ordinary food rapidly accelerates recovery from the severe injuries of his possessed body. Sustained eating also raises his general attributes: after one night of forcing food through his body, he reports more than doubled strength and sharper senses. Food is therefore both the behavior that develops the keyword and the practical fuel that lets him heal and grow (Chapters 1–2, 12–13, 40).

The keyword does not remove the body's normal capacity limit at the outset. Feng Jiu becomes painfully full, and his attempt to maximize growth requires digestion aids and laxatives so he can keep eating. He eventually pushes beyond safety until his stomach bursts, but continued keyword growth heals the rupture; later observers see this happen several times without lasting injury. This method is effective but degrading, painful, resource-dependent, and vulnerable to anyone who can deny him food. His early growth also remains slower than Du Ge's, leaving him dependent on time and supply before his best combat skill can reach its potential (Chapters 7–8, 12–13, 40).

Glutton's Mark

Glutton's Mark is the advanced skill Feng Jiu awakens through his extreme practice of Gluttony. On activation, living black markings spread over his body and transform him into a roughly two-meter, scale-armored Glutton. The form is fast enough to catch Wang San and nearly keep pace with Du Ge, smashes through bystanders hard enough to break bones and tendons, and can resist a sword strike to the neck. Its jaws and claws make the accumulated attributes of Gluttony usable as direct combat power (Chapters 47–48).

The transformation is not invulnerable. Its armored back and neck resist ordinary sword blows, but the underside and rear remain vulnerable. Wang San's Fear of Beauty affects the beast despite the transformation, overriding its attack and making it expose that weakness while fleeing. After about two minutes of pursuit and repeated penetrating wounds, the form shrinks back into Feng Jiu, and the markings fade. Feng Zhong believes a better-developed Feng Jiu could have produced a larger, longer-lasting Glutton, but this remains his assessment rather than a demonstrated rule. Feng Jiu loses access to Gluttony and Glutton's Mark when the first simulation ends (Chapters 48–49, 177).

Mockery and Gossip Tongue

As Bao Benwei, Xu Sheng receives Mockery instead of Gluttony. Deliberately belittling and provoking others develops his attributes, while the derived skill Gossip Tongue makes a target annoyed and restless as long as he keeps using mocking language. He combines it with firearms, using the agitation to disrupt Du Ge's judgment and movement while shooting from a distance. The effect depends on his ability to continue speaking: when pain interrupts him or Du Ge physically prevents intelligible speech, the target regains clarity and Xu Sheng's recovery also stalls. Du Ge then purchases both the keyword and skill, leaving Xu Sheng unable to use them for the remainder of that simulation (Chapters 104–106).

Inferiority and Self-Abandonment

On the later Alien Star Battlefield, Xu Sheng's keyword is Inferiority. Its derived skill, Self-Abandonment, causes others to avoid him when he sinks into complete self-abasement and regards himself as worthless. The effect can preserve his life by discouraging engagement, but it provides no demonstrated attack, control over a chosen target, or useful contribution to a team battle. These limitations help explain why he seeks Du Ge's forces rather than building an independent campaign and why his assigned title is Earth Waste Star. He survives the battlefield, but no continued access to Inferiority or Self-Abandonment after returning to Qi Yuan Star is established (Chapters 374, 376).

Martial foundation and judgment

Feng Jiu's first possessed body retains its memories, martial training, and intact dantian, unlike Du Ge's damaged host, but he chooses not to devote his early opportunity to ordinary martial cultivation. His greatest consistent aptitude is analytical: he identifies the likely main storyline, understands that exposed keywords create exploitable weaknesses, recognizes the class resentment between civilian and elite academies, and devises a credible plan for attacking Du Ge's public influence. His conclusions are not always correct, and jealousy repeatedly causes him to underestimate Du Ge, but the same capacity for retrospective analysis eventually lets him recognize that cooperation offers a better chance of survival than another direct challenge (Chapters 1–3, 12–14, 40, 47, 106).

Relationships

• Du Ge: Feng Jiu moves from deceptive partner to bitter rival, humiliated opponent, reluctant student, and finally battlefield ally. Du Ge repeatedly defeats him but also teaches him to interpret keywords more radically and ultimately provides the coalition in which he survives.
• Feng Shiren: Feng Shiren initially treats Feng Jiu as proof of the Heavenly Demons' power, then restrains and bargains with him as a counterweight to Du Ge. Their cooperation ends when the Iron Palm Gang overcomes the Feng family.
• Wang San: Wang San becomes Feng Jiu's intended prey after Glutton's Mark activates. Fear of Beauty turns the attack around and enables Du Ge to defeat him; both later survive the same Alien Star Battlefield under Du Ge.
• Feng Zhong: Feng Zhong assesses the unrealized potential of Feng Jiu's Glutton transformation after his elimination. They later return as surviving members of Du Ge's Qi Yuan Star group.
• Yao Tong: Yao Tong and Xu Sheng are captured by Du Ge in the charity simulation, bargain for rankings together, reveal their identities, and enter a mutual-assistance agreement.
