Barry
Barry is the scarred first mate of the Giant Bird and one of Paul's longest-serving pirate officers.
Biography
From mutiny plotter to trusted first mate
Barry helps Wayne plan a move against the Giant Bird's captain, only for Du Ge to take over the captain's body and expose the scheme. Rather than discarding the conspirators, Du Ge praises their planning and keeps Barry in service. Barry responds with wary practicality: he repeatedly questions plans that appear suicidal, including provoking great powers and sailing toward Antonio's blockade, but continues carrying out orders after Paul's victories show that those risks can produce growth. (Chapters 127–150)
As the Sea Fish Pirate Group expands, Barry becomes a steady shipboard adviser and messenger rather than a challenger for command. He witnesses revelations surrounding Martha Hoya and the Sea God's daughter, helps keep the flagship operating through the struggle for the Destiny Sea Chart, and reports the fleet's final approach to Erge Ale. His survival and continued responsibility demonstrate that his loyalty has become functional and durable, even though he never loses his instinct for questioning danger. (Chapters 156–177)
Appearance and personality
Barry has a fleshy face and a large scar on his left cheek, giving him a fierce appearance. In practice he is cautious, candid, and often the first officer to voice the ordinary crew's alarm. (Chapters 127 and 133–134)
Abilities
Barry is an experienced sailor, navigator, and shipboard organizer. He can estimate routes and arrival times and relay fleet orders, but he has no identified supernatural skill and is not shown matching the enhanced candidates in direct combat. (Chapters 133–137 and 177)
