Five Colored Pagoda

The Five Colored Pagoda, later affectionately called Lil' Pagoda, begins as an incomplete five-element talisman and develops into Zuo Mo's sentient companion. Its history is one of continuing refinement: it gains a soul bond, independently operates formations and puppets, changes from five-element balance toward yin and yang, and survives the endless void without being dismantled or transferred. History

Purchase and soul-tethering

An unnamed roaming cultivator made the pagoda as a five-level gold, wood, water, fire, and earth talisman but died after his cultivation went astray. His family sold the unfinished work to Hundred Treasure Flying Pavilion. Lin Qian and Su offered it as payment for Zuo Mo's forging, but Zuo Mo refused the favor and bought it himself. The accompanying record describes a future balanced five-element world; at purchase, the pagoda can deconstruct lower-grade materials into elemental energy, strengthen five-element spells, and provide a pocket space. Zuo Mo later wraps a star bead with a divided portion of his consciousness and places it inside the pagoda. The refinement transforms the artifact into a soul-tethered talisman, making its connection to him as immediate as a limb and allowing it to grow with him. That bond also creates reciprocal risk: another person cannot readily seize and use the talisman, but damage to it can injure its owner. As it awakens, the pagoda begins eating talismans and materials, separating their five-element essence from grey residue, and acting with an increasingly childlike personality. Independent work and an incomplete five-element world

Lil' Pagoda becomes more than a focus for Zuo Mo's spells. It independently controls the Skyring Moon Chime Formation, times attacks, directs mining puppets, retrieves ore and spoils, and restores depleted power by eating suitable talismans. These duties show real judgment, although its appetite and exhaustion still require Zuo Mo's supervision. (Chapters 189–194, 264–265, 282–301)

Zuo Mo continues building the internal five-element foundation with exceptionally valuable sources: the Jade Hook Tree feeds the wood level, Great Day Banded Flame the fire level, golden crystal sand the gold level, and cloud essence the water level. The additions advance the original maker's design but do not establish that the envisioned self-contained five-element world was ever completed. (Chapter 525)

From five elements to yin and yang, then through the void

While Zuo Mo is away from Mo Cloud Sea, he leaves Lil' Pagoda with Chun Yu Cheng for specialized care rather than transferring ownership. Chun Yu Cheng discovers that its attributes are shifting toward yin and yang and feeds it materials in balanced pairs until a yin-yang fish forms. Lil' Pagoda subsequently rejoins Zuo Mo and travels with him; it is not a component of the separately forged Little Mo Treasure Cup, despite Zuo Mo thinking of the absent pagoda while making that vessel. In the ancient ruins, Lil' Pagoda absorbs dangerous white mist alongside the Black Gold Seal Soldier, suffers indigestion, and later weaponizes stored mist while helping Zuo Mo ambush enemies. Passage through the endless void alters its appearance—the yin-yang fish eyes disappear and black mist gathers around a clear pearl—but it remains alive. After Zuo Mo recovers, it leaps into his arms, establishing that its final condition is active companionship rather than destruction, consumption, or a custody change. Abilities and properties

• Five-element conversion and amplification: The pagoda breaks down compatible inputs into five-element energy, strengthens Zuo Mo's five-element techniques, and expels residue outside that system. Its internal levels require high-quality elemental sources to mature. (Chapters 130–131, 161–172, and 525)
• Soul-tethered control: Zuo Mo can command it with the immediacy of moving his own hand. The bond resists hostile appropriation and permits growth, but also exposes him to backlash if the talisman is harmed. (Chapters 153–155 and 159)
• Independent formation and puppet operation: Lil' Pagoda can run the Skyring Moon Chime Formation, time attacks, supervise mining puppets, and collect materials without moment-to-moment direction. Its behavior demonstrates intelligence rather than mere automatic activation. (Chapters 189–194, 264–265, and 282–301)
• Consumption and recovery: It eats talismans, ore, elemental materials, and later ancient mist to replenish or transform itself. Unsuitable or excessive intake can leave it depleted or ill, so consumption is neither limitless nor uniformly safe. (Chapters 171–172, 193–194, 298, and 789–799)
• Yin-yang transformation: Balanced feeding under Chun Yu Cheng shifts its internal organization from the original five-element emphasis toward yin and yang. Later void exposure changes that form again, showing an evolving constitution rather than a fixed finished state. (Chapters 752, 762, and 857)
