Angel Device Raiment

The Angel Device Raiment is a full-body raiment forged and named by Zuo Mo. Although observers initially call it a shen device, Zuo Mo ultimately classifies it more precisely as a pseudo-shen device: an unprecedented bridge between existing equipment and true shen devices. He tests its response to several kinds of shen power before trading it to Gu Liang Dao, who immediately gives it to Shuang Yu. (Chapters 716, 718–719, and 739)

History

An experimental raiment becomes a coveted prototype

After completing the unusual raiment, Zuo Mo initially refuses to sell it and names it the Angel Device Raiment. Its apparent proximity to a shen device draws intense interest from major factions, both because of its immediate power and because it offers a model for the returning era of shen equipment. Testing convinces Zuo Mo that the raiment is valuable but also politically dangerous to retain; he decides that he can forge better equipment later and that trading this one for something useful to A Gui is more important. (Chapters 716–719)

The raiment incorporates a simple shen glyph, and Zuo Mo's later experiments show why such work is difficult to reproduce: materials below the necessary quality cannot endure the shen-forging process, while even seventh-grade material turns to ash when tested for supporting a shen glyph. This makes the raiment not merely strong armor but evidence of a new forging threshold. (Chapters 720 and 722)

A soul-nurturing trade transfers the raiment to Shuang Yu

Zuo Mo eventually auctions the raiment because he urgently needs a treasure capable of nurturing the soul. Gu Liang Dao pays with his sole top-level Five Element Soul Dan, delivered in a jade box, and receives the raiment from Zuo Mo. Gu does not keep or wear it: in the same scene he places it in Shuang Yu's hands, explaining that acquiring it for his sworn brother had been his intention all along. This is a completed transfer to Shuang Yu rather than a loan or temporary fitting. (Chapters 736–739)

Seven years later, Gu Liang Dao's faction is said to have grown enormously after obtaining the raiment, with Shuang Yu established as its strongest expert. The artifact also remains an important technical precedent: Golden Crow Camp later produces true shen-device raiments, and Zuo Mo still uses the Angel Device Raiment as his comparison when planning a new batch of pseudo-shen devices. Neither reference records a further transfer, consumption, dismantling, or destruction of the original. (Chapters 745–746 and 873)

Abilities and properties

• Adaptive shen-power response: With Zuo Mo's sun shen power, the blue crystalline armor forms serene blue flames while its white wings shed golden sparks of adhering shen fire. With Ceng Lian'er's moon shen power it produces moonlight and sharp crescent effects; with A Gui it turns dark, emits black mist, and can conceal a motionless wearer in darkness. (Chapter 718)
• Efficient shen-technique channeling: Zuo Mo finds no obstruction when sending shen power through the raiment and can activate a shen technique for less than eight-tenths of its normal expenditure while wearing it. (Chapter 718)
• Enhanced perception: During Zuo Mo's test, a red cast enters his vision and he can see through more than three zhang of rock as well as detect concealed jinzhi. The corpus does not separately establish whether every wearer receives exactly the same visual effect. (Chapter 718)
• Concealed output: Its blue and gold flames give off no detectable presence, surpassing the concealment of the spells and yao arts known to Zuo Mo at that point. (Chapter 718)
• Pseudo-shen classification: The raiment is exceptionally close to a shen device but is not the same as the true shen-device raiments Golden Crow Camp later forges. Its simplest shen glyph still requires exceptionally durable materials. (Chapters 718–719, 722, and 746)

Ownership and custody
