Yuan Xin is introduced as the “Eastern Cloud Buddha,” a highly placed expert who agrees to join the coalition against Turtle Island. During the assault, he chants while Gu Ming Gong delays the defenders and proves capable of stopping Zong Ru's strike. Sensing the profound dhyana essence in Zong Ru's power, Yuan Xin advances directly, becoming increasingly jealous of the Crossed Prayer Wheel and eager to seize both it and its associated inheritance. (Chapters 460–468)

Yuan Xin tries to overwhelm Zong Ru through greater ling power and throws his heavy Skanda Staff with a named killing technique. When another defender interrupts, he still believes both opponents exhausted and closes to kill Zong Ru, breaking the latter's arm. The surviving account does not narrate Yuan Xin's final defeat directly.
