Wen Tie

Wen Tie is the last known cultivator of the small Sky Fiend Sect, a surviving branch of the destroyed Devilings Sect. Near the end of his lifespan, he seeks yin-bead knowledge as a possible route beyond his cultivation dead end.

Biography

Wu Kong and the Sword Test Conference

Wen Tie joins the experts investigating hidden danger around Dong Fu, senses that someone is following them, and helps reason about a targeted attack. After learning that someone can make yin beads, he sends his disciple Xue Yun to buy openly while he waits under concealment for the source to appear. When Zuo Mo arrives, Wen Tie seizes his shoulder and prepares an earth-concealment escape, but a silent flame burns his hand to white bone. He rolls in agony and is reduced completely to dust, becoming the fatal example that drives other jindan contenders away. (Chapters 71–78)

Appearance and personality

Wen Tie looks like an ordinary middle-aged man although he is more than two centuries old and nearing the end of his lifespan. He is worried and analytical in the investigation, patient and composed while hunting, secretive about his origins, and willing to abduct Zuo Mo when a path to further cultivation appears. Abilities and cultivation

Wen Tie reaches jindan using an otherwise unexceptional Sky Fiend scripture, demonstrating unusual talent. A unique earth-based concealment method discovered while he was ningmai has saved him from multiple lethal situations and lets him wait unseen near the market. (Chapter 78)

His sect scripture has reached a dead end, and even his best escape requires physical contact and a moment to cast. The mysterious flame activates before he can leave, destroys his hand instantly, and consumes him despite jindan cultivation. (Chapter 78)

Relationships

• Xue Yun: Wen Tie's disciple buys yin beads publicly while his master remains concealed. The disciple's conduct also affects Wen Tie's reputation. (Chapters 76–78)
• Sky Fiend Sect: Wen Tie is its last member and inherits a surviving branch of Devilings Sect knowledge, including unusual familiarity with yin beads. (Chapter 78)
• Zuo Mo: Wen Tie attempts to seize him as the yin-bead source but is killed by the protective flame before escaping. (Chapter 78)

Items

No personal weapon or talisman is clearly assigned to Wen Tie. The round gold shuttle, silver sand, dark-red rope, and pale-green sword in the final clash belong to other attacking experts. (Chapter 78)
