Song Yuan
Song Yuan is a Kun Lun jindan sword xiu whose strong intuition warns him that the Bloody Sky Metropolis campaign is more dangerous than his comrades believe. He is not a battle general, but serves beside Ming Lie as a vigilant flank defender.
Biography
Documented arc
Song Yuan accompanies his shixiong Ming Lie in Bloody Sky Metropolis Jie while openly questioning Kun Lun's confidence. He insists that survival matters more than merit and senses danger despite a stable sword heart, warning against underestimating the world's heroes. Liang Wei's ambush confirms that unease: Song Yuan watches coordinated yao attacks, the destruction of troops, and poison on a scale beyond his earlier experience. He remains alert, helps recall Ming Lie from a stunned state, and guards his commander's flank as the force moves through the larger battlefield. (Chapters 428–433)
When Zuo Mo attacks, Song Yuan detects him first and uses the Pine Script Sword to form round sword energy and then a coiling snow snake. Zuo Mo's Great Day mo physique breaks and corrodes the defense, cracking the sword and exhausting Song Yuan. A Great Day Script-covered palm passes through his chest, killing him; later reports identify him as a Kun Lun jindan slain by Zuo Mo. (Chapters 437–442)
Appearance and personality
Song Yuan is a round-faced youth with small, bean-like eyes and an often sleepy appearance. He describes himself as peace-loving rather than battle-mad. Cautious, skeptical, and sensitive to danger, he is also loyal enough to keep watch, steady Ming Lie, and hold a threatened flank. Battlefield slaughter replaces some of his earlier detachment with grief and fear. (Chapters 428–433 and 438)
Abilities and cultivation
Song Yuan is a jindan sword xiu with a strong sword heart and danger intuition. Using the Pine Script Sword, he creates a circular defensive energy and changes it into a nimble, snake-like form. He also understands enough of combat to recognize when an enemy's attacks are beyond ordinary human cultivation. (Chapters 428, 433, and 438–442)
He is explicitly not a battle general. His snow-snake defense cannot withstand the hardness and yang nature of Zuo Mo's Great Day mo physique, and he lacks a method specialized against that power. Sustained collisions crack his sword and leave no successful escape. (Chapters 429–430 and 438)
Relationships
- Ming Lie: Song Yuan is his shidi, cautious counterpart, and flank support. He challenges Ming Lie's optimism but remains at his side throughout the campaign. (Chapters 428–438)
- Liang Wei: Liang Wei's ambush realizes Song Yuan's premonition and teaches him the gulf between ordinary danger and organized war. (Chapters 429–431)
- Zuo Mo: Song Yuan defends Ming Lie against him and is killed after his sword defense fails against the Great Day mo physique. (Chapters 437–442)
Items
- Pine Script Sword: A seemingly ordinary sword carried on Song Yuan's back. It channels his round and snow-snake sword energies but develops a web of cracks under Zuo Mo's attack. Its final custody is not stated. (Chapters 428, 433, and 438)
- Message sword: Song Yuan receives a small flying-sword message before the ambush. It is a communication device, not a signature combat weapon. (Chapter 428)
