Nan Yue

Nan Yue is a hardworking yao from the nearly extinct Wisteria Clan of the South Sky. Her chance meeting with Zuo Mo in the Ten Finger Prison gives her access to the lost South Sky Arrow Art, but her development rests on mastering the smallest yao arts, enduring Pu Yao's training, and acquiring the real combat experience she initially lacks.

Nan Yue is not Zhu Nan Yue, a separate Northern Plains Ice Mansion general who appears in the Nether Realm chapters. Similar names in the source do not make their affiliations, achievements, or offices interchangeable.

Biography

The student who returned to first principles

Nan Yue enters Vast Water Clear Skies as an ordinary student whose talent attracts no teacher despite years of hard work. She recognizes that Zuo Mo is deconstructing constructed yao arts into their smallest components and asks for guidance. When Pu Yao recognizes her clan, Zuo Mo promises the lost South Sky Arrow Art but begins with little yao arts and deconstruction. The lesson changes the logic of her casting: instead of admiring high-level displays, she learns to identify structures and combine low-cost arts to interrupt them. This produces an immediate exam victory and offers of advancement, which she declines rather than leave the teacher and path she has chosen. (Chapters 338–350)

Her loyalty does not make training easy. Zuo Mo teaches by demonstration and gives her practical questions; Pu Yao later drives Nan Yue and her companions through much harsher routines. She accepts the South Sky Arrow Art, helps move the surviving Wisteria clan alongside the clans of Cang Ze and Ming Jue Zi, and persists even when criticism leaves her in tears. When the group is transported physically to Zuo Mo's territory, controlled exercises become true campaigns. Their first large engagement exposes their inexperience, but the resulting battles harden their wills and let Nan Yue break through to yin spirit, entering the Rahula yao realm. From follower to trusted field leader

Nan Yue's later work combines direct combat with small-team responsibility. She fires South Sky Arrow Art at Lin Qian, trains around the Mo Skill Steles, and joins missions with A Wen, Cang Ze, the orange-haired yao, and the black smoke yao. Their strength is real, but they initially dislike covert manipulation and rely on experienced intelligence operatives when a mission requires coercion or political schemes. That limitation becomes part of their education rather than being erased: Nan Yue can lead honest fighters, recognize a high-priority mission, and admit when another specialist understands the shadows better than she does. By the defense against Tian Huan, Nan Yue is explicitly the group's leader, experienced through hundreds of battles and trusted to take the highest firing position. She forms a bow of light and delivers rapid, precise arrows while directing her companions. Even after Zuo Mo disappears, she continues training in the Ten Finger Prison and returns to the place where he first taught her South Sky Arrow Art. Her tearful report of his reappearance reflects continued personal loyalty, while her battlefield role shows that she no longer needs his immediate supervision to function. (Chapters 818–832, 877)

Appearance and personality

Nan Yue first appears with faint-green hair, matching translucent olive-green eyes, a slightly pointed chin, and a short robe that makes her look capable. She wears plain clothing at school and is initially nervous around the mysterious elder. The text later emphasizes stance and demeanor rather than new physical features: on the Tian Huan battlefield she stands high in the wind with a cold, focused expression and a light bow in hand. She is diligent, modest, loyal, and unusually persistent. Hard conditions make her careful about tempting offers, while friendship makes her protective and capable of anger at cruelty. Her honesty is also a tactical limitation during covert operations; she does not naturally understand manipulation. By contrast, in open battle she remains calm, obeys mission discipline, and accepts responsibility for her team. (Chapters 338–350, 521, 549–564, 766–783, 832)

Abilities and cultivation

Little yao arts and deconstruction

Nan Yue's foundation is not one spectacular inherited spell but the ability to see how yao arts are assembled. She learns to deconstruct the thirteen thousand constructs of Vast Water Clear Skies and to combine little yao arts quickly. In her school exam, Mist Manifestation disrupts the energy structure of a stronger-looking Rock Driving Flow, and subsequent chained little arts let her cast faster than opponents who rely on a single high-level technique. These methods conserve spiritual power and reward structural insight, but their effect depends on recognizing the target's composition and choosing the correct interference. (Chapters 338–350)

South Sky Arrow Art

South Sky Arrow Art is the lost inheritance of Nan Yue's Wisteria Clan, transmitted through Zuo Mo under Pu Yao's direction. Her training takes the form of holding an invisible bow and distinguishing the true target among false yao arts. In combat, it produces a straight purple arrow light and later a light bow from which she fires long, thin arrows at an exceptional rate. The art gives her a clear long-range specialty; it does not eliminate the need for positioning, team protection, or combat judgment, which is why her high firing point in the Tian Huan defense matters. Yin spirit, Rahula, and shen-power development

Pu Yao's intense training accelerates Nan Yue's technique but eventually reaches a limit without genuine danger. Hundreds of fights during the Shattered Stone journey supply that missing pressure, transforming her composure and driving a breakthrough to yin spirit, the Rahula yao realm. Later narration treats her returned group as shen-power experts and shows them participating in Mo Cloud Sea's highest-risk operations. The corpus does not give Nan Yue a separate named shen methodology or an exact final rank, so those later results should not be attributed to Zhu Nan Yue's cultivation or offices. Zuo Mo and Pu Yao

Nan Yue regards Zuo Mo as Daren and her chosen teacher, even before she learns his wider identity. He gives patient explanations, models deconstruction, and protects her group when political authorities attempt to draft them. Pu Yao supplies the deeper inheritance and ruthless training that Zuo Mo cannot, but his standards frighten and sometimes crush her confidence. Together they provide complementary causes for her growth: Zuo Mo establishes trust and method, while Pu Yao forces performance. (Chapters 338–405, 507–523)

Cang Ze and the follower group

Cang Ze, Ming Jue Zi, the black smoke yao, and the orange-haired yao train and fight beside Nan Yue. Their clans relocate together for mutual protection, shared hardship strengthens their friendships, and Nan Yue eventually becomes the field leader. She does not claim every specialty: the black smoke yao is identified as the strategic thinker, while covert agents guide their political mission. A Wen is a competitive companion within the same later group, not the source of Nan Yue's arrow inheritance. (Chapters 479–523, 620–624, 747–832)

Wisteria Clan of the South Sky

Only eleven members of Nan Yue's clan remain when she meets Zuo Mo. Recovering South Sky Arrow Art therefore has collective importance beyond personal advancement. Nan Yue moves the clan to live near allied small clans and uses the inheritance in Mo Cloud Sea's service, preserving a line that had otherwise retained little beyond its name and records.
