Lu Zhen

Lu Zhen is the public leader of Xu Ling Sect in Cloud Sea Jie and an embedded subordinate of a larger sect seeking the Sun Shen Temple ruins. He is a competent administrator with deep ling power, but his practical combat technique is below that of the higher-status Li Shu.

Lu Zhen first appears assessing the jindan coalition forming against Turtle Island. As Xu Ling Sect's current leader, he has made the branch more prosperous and prepares Huang Long Zhenren as a deterrent while monitoring the Tian Family and Zuo Mo. His larger purpose is concealed: the superior sect placed Lu Zhen and his companions in Cloud Sea Jie years earlier to position themselves for the Sun Shen Temple ruins. When news of the ruins leaks, he panics, reports upward, and endures public pressure until Elder Shen arrives with Li Shu, reassures the branch, and takes control of the expedition. (Chapters 462, 480–483, and 493)

Lu Zhen accompanies Elder Shen and Li Shu into the ruins, where he follows rather than interprets the ancient phenomena. During the final clash, his greater reserve of ling power cannot compensate for inferior spells and talismans. When the Masked Assassin threatens Li Shu, Lu Zhen abandons his own opponent and launches the blue ring from his hand to help. The assassin's counter penetrates or triggers the destruction of Lu Zhen's armor, freezing him in place and killing him. Li Shu, despite their ordinary relationship and unequal status, is deeply struck that an outer disciple died saving him. (Chapters 490, 495, and 498–504)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no stable physical description of Lu Zhen. His expression is commonly serious, and he attempts to appear calm even when the leak about the ruins leaves him sweating and frightened. He is cautious, dutiful toward superiors, and mindful of local power balances. His final action shows personal loyalty or instinctive courage stronger than the status distance between him and Li Shu. Abilities and cultivation

Lu Zhen is a third-stratum jindan with more ling power than Li Shu. He can operate in the extreme heat of the Sun Shen Temple ruins and reacts quickly enough to send a talisman toward an assassin attacking another target. His blue ring expands after release, suggesting a binding or striking function, though the scene does not name the technique or show a successful hit. (Chapters 462, 499, and 504)

His limitations are explicit. Compared with Li Shu, Lu Zhen is clumsy: both his spellcasting and his talismans are far inferior despite the larger ling-power reserve. He also depends on Huang Long Zhenren and later Elder Shen for high-level deterrence, and he does not understand several critical developments inside the ruins. (Chapters 462, 490, 498, and 504)

Relationships

• Huang Jie: Huang Jie is Lu Zhen's shidi and fellow branch administrator. They plan together, welcome Elder Shen together, and share responsibility for the hidden mission. (Chapters 462 and 483)
• Elder Shen: Lu Zhen kneels to the yuanying elder and follows his leadership into the ruins. Elder Shen treats the local branch's errors as secondary to recovering the treasure. (Chapters 483 and 490–504)
• Li Shu: Li Shu is formally his shixiong but holds much higher authority. Lu Zhen dies trying to save him, transforming an otherwise ordinary relationship into a source of grief for Li Shu. (Chapters 483 and 504)
• Zuo Mo and Turtle Island: Lu Zhen monitors Turtle Island and prepares deterrence while other jindan plot against it, but he does not personally join their initial attack. Both parties later converge on the Sun Shen Temple ruins as rivals. (Chapters 462–504)

Items

• Blue ring: A ring worn on Lu Zhen's hand that expands and shoots toward the Masked Assassin when Li Shu is endangered. Its grade, name, and final custody are unstated. (Chapter 504)
• Ling armor: The armor explodes when the assassin's point of light strikes behind Lu Zhen, immediately preceding his death. The text does not identify its grade or whether the attack destroys it outright. (Chapter 504)
• Jade chime: Lu Zhen taps a small jade chime when Elder Shen arrives, apparently as part of the branch's formal reception. No combat use is shown. (Chapter 483)
