Bie Han

Bie Han is the commander of Sin Battalion and one of Mo Cloud Sea's foremost battle generals. Raised and confined by Xuan Kong Temple despite his talent, he defects with the battalion, binds himself to Zuo Mo for a century in exchange for their treatment, and turns the force once imposed upon him into the core of a long campaign against his former sect and Mo Cloud Sea's later enemies. Biography

The captive blade of Xuan Kong Temple

Bie Han spends seventeen years at Xuan Kong Temple, where his talent is acknowledged but controlled. The sect leader names him and Jiang Zhe as the younger generation's only candidates to become gold battle generals, yet Bie Han is made to chant sutras because of his supposedly excessive killing energy. After he earns his gold battle-general medal, the sect confines him rather than giving him an independent command, then releases him with Sin Battalion only when troubled times make its “vicious knife” useful. (Chapters 532–533)

The assignment exposes the nature of that knife. Sin Battalion consists of silent mo whose bodies are covered in Xuan Kong Temple's restrictive scripts, and Bie Han himself is a mo whose identity has been concealed by the sect. He abandons the mission against Cloud Sea Jie and returns to his birth clan, where his own restraints are replaced with a mo matrix. Even there, however, his standing and inheritance matter less to him than obtaining the same relief for the battalion, and he offers to leave the clan household if his elder brother will free them. His family cannot solve the battalion's problem. When the restraints begin to backfire, Bie Han expects every member eventually to lose control and die violently, while using them in combat will hasten the process. Zuo Mo instead removes the dangerous restrictions from a missing member, preserves and improves the useful structures, and more than doubles that soldier's power. Bie Han then accepts Zuo Mo's demand for one hundred years of service in return for treating, equipping, and supporting all 2,623 members and helping him take revenge on Xuan Kong Temple. Great Peace and the road back to Xuan Kong

Once the reconstruction is complete, Bie Han finally receives the kind of battlefield he has wanted throughout his career. Against the Ming Bandits, he uses the xiuzhe battle general's practice of “divination”—judging an enemy's intentions and weaknesses—to turn Sin Battalion's speed, obedience, and collective violence into a surprise attack. He avoids individual duels because the battalion has no singular champions, attacks as a coordinated net, and later reads disorder in Marshal Yu's formation quickly enough to strike before reinforcements force a disciplined withdrawal. (Chapters 628, 635–639, 652–654)

The war over Xuan Kong Temple gives that skill a personal target. Bie Han infiltrates Cold Mountain Jie using his knowledge of the sect, prudently hides when the elder corps is too powerful to confront, and helps cut off Jiang Zhe's retreat after Gongsun Cha has worn the opposing force down; Bie Han then kills his former rival himself. Later, he and Gongsun Cha devise a strike on Xuan Kong's nearly empty main peak. Bie Han captures it without allowing a warning to escape, burns it, and withdraws before rival treasure-seekers arrive. (Chapters 678, 686–687, 731)

The Hundred Energy campaign and Sin Battalion's price

When Mo Cloud Sea targets Hundred Energy Jie, Bie Han is entrusted not only with Sin Battalion but with a multi-battalion campaign. He disperses his commanders across apparently unrelated routes, uses them to block reinforcements, prepares a defensive position for Ma Fan, and takes Sin Battalion out to destroy the relieving forces. The design deliberately leaves him appearing isolated because his actual plan is to draw Hai Jin Yun and Shang Yu Sheng into a battle where he intends to defeat both. (Chapters 752–759, 769, 778)

The victory reveals both his expanded methods and their cost. Bie Han combines his learned xiuzhe formations with mo fighting methods, channels the battalion's power through the shen-device raiment Arsonist, and kills Hai Jin Yun and Shang Yu Sheng. The plan depends on spending Sin Battalion's lives to exhaust one opponent and lure the other into decisive range; fewer than half of the battalion remain afterward. The result secures the campaign, but it also appears to leave Bie Han weaker because the original Sin Battalion has no ordinary source of recruits. (Chapters 784–787)

Bie Han records every fallen member on memorial tablets in a hall he builds on Resting Island. Their blood beads retain their combat instincts, however, and he supplies the costly shen crystals needed to grow and forge successors. Ten years later, the new Sin Battalion is complete: its members possess complete souls, share a mental connection with Bie Han from birth, and preserve the old battalion's fighting instincts. Bie Han regards them as a new source of life and hope, while explicitly leaving the original dead at rest rather than treating the reconstruction as their return. (Chapters 789, 900, 903)

The final war with Kun Lun

During Zuo Mo's ten-year absence, Bie Han shares Mo Cloud Sea's military burden and rises to sixth in the contemporary battle-general ranking. When war with Kun Lun begins, he relieves Gongye Xiao Rong, immediately seeks Mu Xuan, and demonstrates how far his command has developed. He breaks down her sword formations, switches between mo power-concentration and Xuan Kong formations, and then uses Sin Battalion's tireless focus to harry her force until it can neither defeat him nor withdraw freely. (Chapters 854, 897–909)

After Kun Lun recalls its main forces, Bie Han joins Gongsun Cha and Yang Yuan Hao in breaking through the depleted border. Their strategy is destruction rather than occupation: Bie Han razes nine major hub cities while the combined commanders dismantle Kun Lun's logistical base. He remains one of the three commanders whose survival Wei Sheng treats as essential during the final confrontation, and he is alive when the novel's concluding battle begins. (Chapters 910–915)

Appearance and personality

At his introduction, Bie Han is not tall and has a thin frame, hollow cheeks, and an otherwise ordinary face. After returning to the mo world, the golden restrictions that once covered him are gone; his skin is black and marked by an intricate snowy-white mo matrix, while his eyes are repeatedly described as cold. When he activates Arsonist, fiery red armor and an angry mark contrast with icy-blue scripts visible on his face, neck, and exposed skin. (Chapters 532, 572, 785–786)

Bie Han is quiet, terse, reclusive, and almost obsessively controlled. That reserve is not emotional emptiness: his fear for Sin Battalion drives his defection and century-long bargain, he privately builds their memorial hall, and he shows understated care and respect toward commanders who have paid a severe price in battle. His ruthlessness is nevertheless real. He is willing to accept heavy casualties for a decisive victory, but the memorials and reconstruction show that he does not regard those losses as meaningless. Abilities and cultivation

Personal cultivation

Bie Han is a mo whose Xuan Kong restraints are replaced by a mo matrix. Before joining Mo Cloud Sea he says that he knows only xiuzhe battle methods and not mo fighting methods, so his early reputation should not be confused with demonstrated personal combat cultivation. Mo Cloud Sea later draws out his bloodline, teaches him to use mo methods, and equips him to channel shen power, but the narrative still states that he is not a top individual expert and that his greatest power comes from his battalion. Battle command

• Gold battle-general perception: Bie Han uses xiuzhe “divination” to infer intentions, identify weakness and disorder, and express a battalion's strength at the right moment. His later work against Mu Xuan shows that this rests on exhaustive self-study: he deconstructs formations to their underlying structure and creates counters such as Five Star Formation Break. • Offensive tempo and deception: His preferred campaigns use sudden movement, feints, isolation of reinforcements, and attacks at the instant an opponent relaxes. He can sustain irregular movement for hours without repeating a pattern, then withdraw immediately after a short, destructive strike. Contemporary rankings identify weak defense and reliance on rear support as shortcomings, while his command of the Hundred Energy campaign shows that he can compensate through planning and delegation. • Dual command systems: Sin Battalion can execute both xiuzhe formations and mo-style concentration of collective power. Bie Han can shift between protective, charging, and power-amplifying methods, which makes simple type-based counters unreliable. This versatility develops after Mo Cloud Sea reconstructs his and the battalion's matrices; it is not an ability he possesses when he first leaves Xuan Kong Temple. Sin Battalion mechanics and limits

The original battalion's Xuan Kong restraints improve combat performance but bind incomplete souls and can backfire lethally. Its members do not fear pain, meticulously obey Bie Han, and have broadly even strength rather than a few elite fighters. That uniformity enables collective attacks and unbroken concentration, but it also leaves the battalion vulnerable to powerful individual experts in a small engagement and makes Bie Han dependent on preserving the force as a coherent whole. (Chapters 533, 593–596, 635–639, 834)

Zuo Mo's modifications remove the harmful restrictions, preserve the useful ones as mo matrices, and allow the soldiers to cultivate. Even then, attrition remains decisive: Bie Han loses more than half the original unit in one campaign, and those deaths cannot be replaced conventionally. The later battalion requires blood beads, separate growth pools, extensive shen crystals, and forging; its members are new, fully souled beings linked to Bie Han, not recovered versions of the dead. • Zuo Mo: Zuo Mo first earns Bie Han's trust by saving and improving a missing Sin Battalion member. Bie Han accepts one hundred years of service because Zuo Mo offers the battalion treatment, equipment, support, and aid in taking revenge. The relationship develops into durable allegiance: Bie Han obeys strategic orders even when he would rather remain near Zuo Mo, and Zuo Mo later invests exceptional resources in Arsonist and Sin Battalion's reconstruction. • Sin Battalion: The battalion is the center of Bie Han's emotional life and command identity. He has lived with its original members for more than a decade before defecting, risks his clan status for them, and fears using them when combat accelerates the restraints' backlash. After their losses, he writes every memorial tablet himself and distinguishes the dead from the new, fully souled battalion created from their remaining instincts. (Chapters 572, 593, 595, 789, 903)

• Gongsun Cha: The two serve as Mo Cloud Sea's leading battle generals. Gongsun Cha manages the wider command system while Bie Han focuses on Sin Battalion, but they jointly devise the attack on Xuan Kong Temple and later share responsibility for Mo Cloud Sea's wars. Their strengths are complementary: Gongsun Cha is the broader organizer and teacher, while Bie Han is the reclusive offensive specialist. (Chapters 658, 687, 730–731, 752–753, 877)

• Jiang Zhe: Jiang Zhe is Bie Han's childhood rival and the favored young commander of Xuan Kong Temple. Their contests once ended evenly, but the sect gave Jiang Zhe a battalion early while isolating Bie Han and treating Sin Battalion as punishment. Their conflict ends when Bie Han cuts off Jiang Zhe's retreat during Mo Cloud Sea's campaign and personally kills him. (Chapters 533, 660, 678, 686)

• Fu Feng: Fu Feng served Bie Han's mother and continues to address him as “Your Highness” after his return to the clan. He helps search for a solution to Sin Battalion's restraints and identifies Xiao Mo Ge as Zuo Mo, creating the meeting that leads to Bie Han's bargain. Bie Han rejects the title, but his gaze softens at Fu Feng's loyalty to his mother's memory. (Chapters 572, 593, 595)

• Arsonist: A red battle-general shen-device raiment designed for Bie Han and forged by Golden Crow Camp. It receives the battalion's gathered power, burns and amplifies Bie Han's shen power, and converts it into simple, forceful attacks suited to a commander rather than a technique-focused duelist. Its output taxes mental resilience, making Bie Han's extreme calm essential to its control; Golden Crow Camp continues improving it over the following decade. (Chapters 746, 785–786, 900)

• Samadhi Fire Box: Bie Han uses a seal-covered box containing sixth-grade Samadhi Fire to burn Xuan Kong Temple's main peak after capturing it. Golden Crow Camp makes the device, and the fire is chosen partly because several sects possess Samadhi Fire, making the attack harder to attribute. The box is a mission-specific incendiary rather than his regular weapon. (Chapters 731)

• Gold battle-general jade medal: Bie Han earns this credential before his first appearance in the field. Xuan Kong Temple responds by placing him under house arrest and making him chant sutras, so the medal marks the contrast between his formally recognized command rank and the sect's refusal to trust him with ordinary freedom.
