Vincent
Vincent is an Eminent Human Mage and outcast within Skylar's bandit group. Daneel Anivron uses his identity to kill Skylar and command part of the Bandit Alliance; those victories belong to Daneel's impersonation, not to the real Vincent.
Biography
The drunkard whose name becomes a command role
The real Vincent arrives among the bandits from an apparently decent background, leaving his face and habits too clean for people who pride themselves on darker origins. He responds by drinking heavily and holding close an unexplained goal: defeat Skylar and take his position. His repeated drunken challenges end in broken body parts, and his dedication rarely survives long enough to overcome his addiction. Daneel selects this dismissed newcomer as the ideal disguise because no one expects an Eminent Human to threaten an Exalted leader. Under Vincent's face, Daneel kills Skylar, wins command, and swears public allegiance to J. Rather than kill the real man once the operation ends, Daneel preserves the identity by arranging for Vincent to work under Joselyn as a scout, explaining future absences while keeping the cover available. (Chapters 545–552)
Appearance and personality
Vincent has a spotless face and clean appearance that mark him as someone with a better upbringing than the surrounding bandits. He is a drunkard, often found unconscious in his own filth, and repeatedly mistakes intoxicated defiance for a workable plan. At the same time, his fixed desire to depose Skylar implies an objective and private history the corpus never fully explains. Daneel's later confidence, theatrical violence, and leadership under the name are not evidence of Vincent's natural personality. (Chapters 545–552)
Abilities and power
Vincent is an Eminent Human Mage capable enough to remain useful to Skylar's group even while drunk. His exact element, spell set, and formal sublevel within Eminent Human are not detailed. The rapid metal blade, floating knives, anti-teleportation field, Exalted casting speed, and leadership feats displayed in his shape are Daneel's abilities and preparations. Vincent's repeated losses to Skylar establish that his normal power cannot overcome an Exalted Mage with layered barrier trinkets. (Chapters 545–552)
Relationships
- Skylar: Vincent repeatedly challenges Skylar and is beaten rather than killed because his mage skills remain useful. Skylar's contempt for him makes Daneel's disguised challenge fatally easy to underestimate. (Chapters 545–546)
- Daneel Anivron: Daneel borrows Vincent's face, habits, and name for the Bandit Gathering operation. He later keeps the real Vincent alive so the identity can remain credible. (Chapters 545–552)
- Joselyn: Vincent is assigned to Joselyn for scouting after the alliance crisis. This arrangement gives him a source-confirmed destination but does not show how willingly he accepts it or what later work he performs. (Chapters 551–552)
Items
No individually named item is firmly assigned to the real Vincent. The blades and anti-teleportation tool used under his appearance belong to Daneel's operation rather than to Vincent. (Chapters 545–552)
