Joselyn
Joselyn is a former Eldinorian businesswoman whose family's destruction drives her to unite much of Angaria's bandit population. After resisting Daneel Anivron's first recruitment attempt, she accepts a later bargain and becomes the person he trusts to finish Angaria's unification even if he appears to die. (Chapters 545–995)
Biography
A broken merchant becomes the keeper of unification
Joselyn comes from a prominent human family persecuted in Eldinor. After elves destroy her family and the child she loved, grief turns her into a bandit leader pursuing vengeance against the society that protected the killers. She spies on Daneel's gathering, compiles an exhaustive list of wealthy perpetrators, and plans mass bloodshed, but his intervention exposes crimes and rescues victims without granting her the indiscriminate massacre she wants. When he asks her to join him, Joselyn instead invites him to join her. The rejection preserves her independence while leaving both sides aware that their aims overlap. (Chapters 545–554)
Years later, Joselyn has assembled a large bandit army and accepts Daneel's offer because she wants a land that will not create more damaged people like herself. He gives her a uniquely harsh duty: continue the unification ceremony regardless of what happens to him. When Vohler's Heroes attack, she steadies millions, coordinates the kingdom representatives, and forces each oath forward while Daneel is cut apart above her. Her ability to act through grief completes the political process that activates the Godnet and defeats the attackers. At her latest confirmed appearance she remains alive after fulfilling the task that Daneel would not entrust to those who loved him too openly. (Chapters 963 and 979–995)
Appearance and personality
Joselyn is described as terrifyingly beautiful, with hard eyes that make her presence difficult to ignore. Trauma leaves her unable to sleep without reliving loss, and her resolve can become ruthless enough to accept mass killing. She is also perceptive, loyal once convinced, and capable of placing an objective above immediate emotion, the quality that makes her effective during the unification. (Chapters 548, 963, and 979–995)
Abilities and power
Joselyn is highly skilled at stealth, surveillance, coercive leadership, and large-scale organization. She can remain hidden close to powerful observers, use remote communication eyes, command dispersed bandits, and coordinate representatives across a continent-sized gathering. The chapters do not give a precise realm or signature combat Path. Her strength is therefore best understood as operational: she can keep people moving under terror, but requires information, communications, and willing or pressured followers. (Chapters 547–554, 963, and 979–995)
Relationships
- Daneel Anivron: Joselyn initially rejects his offer and counters with one of her own. After he changes the conditions around her, she pledges to help him build a better Angaria and proves it by carrying out his unification schedule while watching him apparently die. (Chapters 548–554 and 979–995)
- Eldra Dartingnon: Eldra explains Joselyn's background and the persecution that destroyed her family. Their histories represent opposite outcomes of Eldinor's old divisions. (Chapter 545)
- Vohler: Vohler's public torture of Daneel is designed to break the unification effort. Joselyn's continued commands deny him that result and help create the conditions for his defeat. (Chapters 984–995)
Items
- Communication eye: Joselyn uses remote observation to watch Daneel's actions and later relies on large-scale communication during the unification. It conveys information but does not make her undetectable by itself. (Chapters 547–549 and 984–995)
