Tenebrol

Tenebrol is the Black Raven King who seizes the throne after the fall of Faxul's family. His reign depends on forced bonds, violence, and the support of Master Novrain, and it ends in a public succession duel against the surviving heir. (Chapters 107–281)

Biography

A violent king loses the throne he stole

Tenebrol first acts through an envoy who presents Daneel with an Eminent Human guardian raven. Behind the diplomacy, he rules under the influence of Master Novrain and uses a forbidden arrangement to bind Ravens quickly. As pressure builds around missing Ker Gems, covert attacks, and collapsing public trust, Tenebrol becomes increasingly frustrated but chooses battle over retreat. He prepares to face Faxul publicly because victory can restore his legitimacy and preserve his life, while defeat will expose the murder and manipulation behind his accession. (Chapters 107, 241–272)

In the succession fight, Tenebrol's decades of combat experience and Exalted Human physique initially overwhelm Faxul. He recognizes too late that the true Black Raven blood is strengthening his opponent, yet continues because fighting at the edge of death is the one state that makes him genuinely happy. Mortally wounded, he admits that Novrain used a spell and drug to force his old Raven bond and enhance him when he killed Faxul's father. He warns Faxul against repeating that compromise, then receives the execution he expects. His death removes the king who stole the throne and clears the way for Faxul's return. (Chapters 277–281)

Appearance and personality

The supplied chapters do not give Tenebrol a detailed physical description. They emphasize a hardened, bloodied Fighter whose agitation relaxes into anticipation once a true duel is unavoidable. Tenebrol is an Exalted Human Fighter with decades of battlefield experience, skilled swordsmanship, and practice coordinating with a bonded Black Raven. He can force a rapid bond through Novrain's trinket and received a concealed drug-based strength enhancement in his earlier coup. These advantages are not natural expressions of the Raven tradition: the bond is coerced, the drug is external, and true Black Raven blood eventually lets Faxul surpass him.
